I just need somewhere to vent or cry.
My son was diagnosed privately with ADHD in May 2022 and was placed on medication, once stable, Aug 2022, our GP took over prescribing, he has been so much better on the medication, completely turned his education around and achieved the grades to attend Cardiff university.
He registered with a GP prior to leaving home in September and it’s taken all this time for the GP in Wales to tell him they will not prescribe his medication. The reason given was that he was assessed privately and chose not to use the NHS.
The doctors suggest he makes a routine appointment to get referred for assessment on the NHS and the first one available (Drs appointment) is the middle of December.
Whilst they maybe within their rights to refuse I am still shocked that someone already on medication can be expected to simply stop. I am also shocked at the lack of concern or care regarding the impact this is having on his mental health.
The clinic here where he was assessed will go from shared care to total care and I will have to pay for twice yearly checkups, monthly fees to write the prescription, special postage from the pharmacy and the cost of the medication. This is an expense that I don’t know where we will find it from as we are also paying his accommodation in Cardiff. Trying to find a Psychiatrist in Cardiff who will accept his diagnosis so that at least rules out the postage! Just weren’t expecting it.
So be warned if you are on medication and move areas.
