Ds 16. Took 4 years to get to camhs in the first place and finally got there at 14. Got a diagnosis of ocd, has medication and months of therapy. It's always been apparent that he could be neurodiverse and psychiatrist has mentioned it. However looking at 18months by then would be an adult.
Funnily enough his psychiatrist and psycologist who did his therapy have both left camhs and set up private. Their cost for an asd assessment is 2500.00. I don't have that money however do have a secure job. I'm trying to work out whether to just pay on an interest free credit card....
First applied to camhs at 10years old and kept getting reduced until ds was 14..don't know If have the patience to wait any longer..

Ps. I'm so sorry if this on wrong forum as now have read and realise for mumsnetters not necessarily for our children.

My DS is 5yo and we're awaiting paediatric assessment. Currently 6 months into a 18 month to 2 year waiting list. I've just started the process via my GP and it's a 2 year waiting list. Yes, I would pay for him, but I wouldn't spend the money on myself.

However, I've got no idea about the implications of waiting for him. Would it be particularly beneficial for him to have the diagnosis at the moment? What happens if he turns 18 and is still waiting? Could you talk it through with a service provider?

You could try SN teens and young adults.

There's definitely places out there that do it for cheaper. But it's important to make sure that the one you go with your GP would accept it.
