Hi my DD is autistic, has complex sensory issues, Tourette Syndrome and severe anxiety. We've got the forms to complete for the DLA. I have zero experience with this. Can you advise me on:
1 do you complete a different form for mobility or is it all included in the DLA?

  1. I've heard they back date to when the form is received, is this for both DLA and mobility?
  2. What's the current waiting time?
  3. It's likely welll be doing the same for my son, albeit he's undiagnosed just now, does he get his own allowance? Mobility? Can we add the mobilities of they're both awarded for a more suitable vehicle?
5 a friend said I should apply for caring allowance but is that ok as I earn a fair pay

Thanks

The form is one and it's split into 2 sections. One section covers care and the other mobility.

They backdate to the date on the form which is when you requested the form

Waiting time = piece of string

You can claim DLA for your son as well it's nothing to do with your DD claim -

You can't add them together and you can only take a motability lease with the high rate for mobility

You can only earn a certain amount and claim carers so it sounds like it's not an option for you.

I would recommend getting help to fill out the form - can, welfare rights (contact local council) or search for other local organisations who may be able to help.

Download and use the excellent Cerebra guide. You may not need assistance completing, if you follow this.

It can help to keep a detailed diary for a couple of weeks beforehand so you have examples and a sense of frequencies to hand.

Don't attempt it in a single sitting.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) - Cerebra

Our guide takes you through each question on the DLA form, giving you explanations of what they mean and tips on how to answer them. This guide is for England and Wales only.

Can anyone help??
June this year my 2 year old got awarded Dla care element and this morning I got through the post a claim packed about help getting around which needs to be posted back by feb 2024, will I have to redo the whole form or can I just do the mobility part as his care element doesn’t run out for 2 years.

Have you considered also asking on the SEND children board? This is the board for neurodivergent adults. Some of us have SEND children or have filled in DLA forms for ourselves as adults, but we don't all have SEND children and you might get more answers if you ask parents of SEND kids.

Hi I'm looking for some help, I'v got a dla form for my 11yr old it's past the deadline date as I've only now received my child's medical reports, it's a really difficult form, well since birth she's had a consultant as she has a condition called nystagmus wich affects her schooling etc I remember in the 6weeks holidays when she seen him last he asked me if she was vision impaired registered yet, well she ain't and I noticed on the for it asks them type of questions she also has an idp /iep plan in school she also has 3 days a week one-one reading support along with other subjects she's in a learning support class she more than likely will now for the rest of school days, basically I have a teachers report explaining what they do for her regarding her eye sight and learning as she has to use an ipad in school take breaks and keep out of the bright sun, etc does anyone know my chances on getting dla for her who's got the experience with these forms like I have as much reports as possible she hasn't been diagnosed with adhd but she has nystagmus like she needs alot more attention than my other children

If my 11yr has a care plan in place in school and is in a learning needs class along with a eye disability called nystagmus how do I go about applying for dla and is it worth the trouble doing the form, like in school she can only use an ipad has to sit at the front of class and can't see or focus like any other 11yr old she wears glasses and still has routine hospital appointments with her eye consultants is it worth me filling a fork out and does a teacher need to physically write on the form or can I phone her for a written report and send that with the dla thank it's so confusing
