Food sensory issues and overweight

I'm autistic and have ADHD. I think I'm probably pre diabetic now, likely as a result of a highly restricted diet of mainly masses of pasta for most of my life though I eventually managed to overcome this somewhat and improve my diet. My weight is almost entirely round my middle and eating things like potatoes puts me to sleep.

A few years ago I managed to have a good go at low carb. I lost weight and I felt a million times healthier and happier. The problem is every so often I get so overwhelmed and freaked out by certain foods and textures and end up restricting my diet to safe foods which often means just pasta, often only specific shapes too. I also have the issue that I find restricting volume of food almost impossible if I'm not eating low carb.

Has anyone managed to overcome sensory issues with food and lose weight? It's so frustrating, I just want to feel healthy again and low carb is pretty much the only time I've been healthy in my life. It's the only time I don't get hungry and feel faint. I'm so frustrated that I can't seem to keep it up and keep regressing to the point that I can't even look at certain foods.

What do supermarket leaves, as in salad in a bag, taste like to you? You might find it helpful to grow your own.

I've been growing my own rocket and other veg but the things that I tend to eat a lot of that I suddenly find I can't are most vegetables and eggs. I've always had trouble with them but I trained myself to eat a more varied diet but every so often I'll start panicking at the texture and taste of vegetables again then and I'm basically left with pasta and cheese as something that doesn't upset me.

I was wondering because I find that supermarket leaves in bags taste like bitrex (the ingredient in Stop And Grow that makes your fingernails taste horrible). The ones I grow myself lack that problem.

They probably wash it in chemicals!

I have lost over 20kg (still have 40 to go) and have sensory issues with food.

I only eat one shape of pasta even though I am aware they are all the same (but they’re so not the same lol). Only with bolognese.

I like vension burgers. Some sandwiches. Chicken nuggets, sausage mash and beans. East simple food for me.

I love crisps and chocolate, but I’ve swapped to popped chips and chocolate mousses. And I have one maybe two a day.

I basically just exercised more, just the gym, though I did go four times a week for 45 minutes. I now go for 30 minutes twice a week as I walk a bit too.

I also reduced portion sizes, so instead of 70g of pasta I have 50g, just a little bit extra bolognese instead. It works quite well really.

could you just try small things, rather than trying to change so much. Start with something small.
