Do you take your meds everyday?

I usually take a day or two off meds each week but I've just realised that I've taken them everyday for the last three weeks. I do worry a little about getting used to them and they stop working, and the long term side effects.

Do you take yours everyday? I'm on 50mg of Elvanse btw, with 5 mg Amfexa that I can take as and when if I need it, but it's very rare that I do that.

I take mine everyday. If I forget I'm a mess, I normally realise at breakfast if I've missed them because I'm busy trying to clean the kitchen instead of sitting with my child at breakfast 😂

Mess is probably the wrong word. I've managed my ADHD without meds my whole life and can cope without them as I always have done - but there is a marked difference in how I am when I do / don't take them to the point my husband notices

My psychiatrist told me it is fine to take them continuously, with maybe a week off once a year. Have you been advised to take a break each week? I am also a mess without mine!

I haven't been advised to take time off, other than the nurse said it can sometimes be good to take a break just as a reminder of what life is like without them. I think they were being a bit tongue in cheek but it's stuck with me and I wondered what other mumsnetters do.

I've read things about people only taking them Monday-Friday for work, but then I think surely it makes sense to take them on a weekend to get the most out of my free time too!

I think a lot of parents do this for their kids when they are off school, I'm not sure if the reason

amusedbush · 05/12/2022 12:32

I tend to take Sundays off simply because it's the one day a week I can sleep late, so I usually wake up too late to take them. I definitely notice, though. Yesterday I was so hungry I could have chewed through the wall and I was falling asleep by dinner time. I told DH I was going to make a coffee and he found me 15 minutes later scrubbing the oven racks BlushGrin

Recently I have been following this schedule:

Monday - Friday: 30mg (Elvanse) at 7:30am, 30mg at 12:30pm
Saturday: 60mg at 8am
Sunday: No meds
