Sometimes I really struggle with the cruelty that exists in the world

I have always been extremely sensitive but I have noticed it seems to be worse sometimes. I was only diagnosed with ADHD about a year ago. Anyway I try to switch off from a lot of stuff and limit my exposure to things online but I have seen so much nastiness especially on Facebook.

At the weekend there was a memorial held for a gay man who had been murdered many years ago and there were people who laugh reacted to his death. I saw the same thing with the Queen's passing and people on social media just being extremely nasty and hateful. I have tried deactivation Facebook but I just go back on it again sooner or later if I'm bored.

I just find so much online stuff is really dragging me down and even making me a little depressed. I'm starting at a support group for depression this week so I'm hoping that will help me a little bit to cope with these feelings.

Does anyone else find social media very upsetting sometimes? How do you manage your exposure to these things?

I avoid all kinds of 'personalised' social media and stick to forums such as Mumsnet and Reddit. I have never opened accounts on Facebook etc.

Sadly, that doesn't shield me from all the cruelty in the world as I do follow the news and so on, and often stories will haunt me for a long time.

There isn't an easy answer. We live in a world where it's too easy for bad people to thrive and prosper, and there is much inbuilt inequality.

I find it helpful sometimes to think of 'heartwarming' events - sometimes you hear of things that (to use a cliche) restore your faith in human nature - and remember that there are good, kind people out there - somewhere.

I hope you find support at the new group you are joining Flowers
