Testing how well you see colour

My DS and me always disagree on the colour of a few of his t-shirts. I always say they are green and he says blue. I decided to look for a test that would tell me how well I can distinguish between shades as I was getting worried that maybe I see colour differently to other people and I found this test.

www.colorblindnesstest.org/farnsworth-munsell-100-hue-test/

My score was zero, which means I got the highest score possible! Turns out that only 16% of the population get between 0-4 so actually my ability to tell the difference between shades is very very good. I found the test extremely easy to do.

It makes me wonder if the reason I need sunglasses is more because of being overwhelmed by colour rather than light as I use them inside too.

Have a go at the test and share your results.

Interesting. I have very good eyesight, but I would also say I'm light sensitive because I always have to wear my sunglasses outside and I do inside in the summer as well sometimes. However I don't use dark mode on my phone or computer because I find it dulls the colours down and I like everything bright and colourful. Strange I know given the sunglasses 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also hate black.

I also scored 0 on that test. Very interesting!

I also dislike black and can't use dark mode! Fascinating.
I absolutely love colour and wear all the colours of the rainbow. The only colours I struggle with are fluorescent yellow and orange as it hurts my eyes and gives me sensory overload. I can't see properly after looking at it, everything looks too bright.

Still really good. The average is about 40 I think

Thanks. I expect it takes all sorts. Being totally colour-blind is advantageous for night vision, for example.
I’m trying to think of something relevant to my score to say about myself, but can’t think of anything. A score of nought or 100 might have mildly surprised me.

Clarice99 · 23/08/2022 07:20

I scored 0 Zero too 😀

DH and I often disagree about the colour of an item, including his t-shirts! I'm going to bookmark this and get DH to take the test later if he scores 'badly', I won't gloat 😋

There was a Victorian scientist who decided to try out his racist theory by testing the colour sensitivity of the natives of a tropical island. He thought their sensitivity would be much better than the natives of Oxford or Cambridge where he’d done his previous tests. He saw it as an animal ability. The distribution turned out to be exactly the same and he abandoned his racist beliefs.
I wish I could remember who it was.

SlowingDownAndDown · 23/08/2022 08:19

My husband scored 2 and then 0 at the second attempt. I’m starting to wonder if it is really so rare! I’ll try and get a few more people to do it.

Mummiepig · 23/08/2022 08:20

I got 0 too, I love colours, hate black/white

Yes, do that.
My son got about 20 wrong.
If you get tested by a doctor they use a physical test with coloured pieces that you move around. I'd love to try it.

Oh that's fascinating
So glad he was proven wrong

I scored 2.

I also wear sunglasses a lot, I got some mirrored ones this year and I love nobody knowing if I'm making eye contact or not!

I need some! Such a good idea.

I scored 0. I don’t think I’m particularly good with colour at all. Very photosensitive though.

RampantIvy · 23/08/2022 17:41

I have very photosensitive eyes and am extremely short sighted with astigmatism. I wear sunglasses whenever it is bright.

I scored 0 as well. I'm not convinced that such a low score is that rare.

Agreed. Too many of us getting zero for it to be that rare.
I reckon only people who are colourblind cannot pass that test.

I got an 8! Yay me. Quite pleased with that, because I've never thought I have very good colour vision.

That was sort of fun.

Me too, although I only have an astigmatism in one eye.

I enjoyed it too. It's satisfying putting things in order isn't it.

@AffIt Have another go.
My scores have been 6, 8, 6, 0, 2.

twoqueens · 24/08/2022 22:56

Zero for me too.
Ive sent it on to a few people, I'll be really surprised if they don't get zero too - I thought it was very easy.

SlowingDownAndDown · 25/08/2022 10:14

Perhaps the test really doesn’t work as it should on screens.

Zero for me too. Methinks something must be afoot. I did spend a lot of 2020 playing I Love Hue though, so maybe I'm practised. Lovely game.
