8D music and neurodiverse people

Researching neurodiversities is my on off special interest so forgive my info dumps on those days Grin

Today I found out about 8D music.
When feeling overwhelmed by sound I listen to music in my headphones and I discovered that with certain songs, the sound would go from ear to ear and I'd get a similar reaction to what I get from watching ASMR videos. I decided to look up what the effect is and its called 8D.

I then googled 8D music and autism and found this article
neuropedia.com/8d-audio-autism-adhd/

I now have a play list on my phone and omg, I don't know how it works but it makes me feel more alert, quietens my sensory discomfort and I can even have a conversation while listening to it! It's like magic!

Have a try in your headphones!

I didn't know that was it's name- I've been trying to find songs/ music in that style since reading a similar article to your link on twitter. Do you have any recommendations for good tracks? I find well-played orchestral classical music hits the same sort of spot- all the different instruments balanced across the sides of the recording.

I've just been looking on apple music and mainly listening to electronic and disco type music but there is plenty of 8D classical on YouTube

I misread this as '80s music' and was all set to start wittering on about Gary Numan😄It does sound good, I will have an exploratory session on YouTube. I know what you mean about the shivery sort of feeling when this happens with music.

I love asmr so thought I might like this but I listened to the one on the article last night and that was horrific 😂 nearly had a heart attach when it did the door knocking sound and the whole thing sounded and felt like something was scratching on my brain basicallt and ended up yanking the headphones off a couple of minutes in, hatttttted it. Dh (also nd) tried it out after though and found it relaxing🤷‍♀️

How interesting! I'd have assumed if you liked ASMR you would like this.
What type of ASMR do you like best? I like most of it but do enjoy the ones with two microphones so the sound bounces from ear to ear in a similar way.

Oooh. Found a few playlists on Spotify and am listening now - it's a bit odd, but in a good way, I think.

I'll experiment!

ASMR doesn't do anything for me (I don't find it unpleasant, it just doesn't spark any reaction) but I like this 8D music, so possibly they do 'speak to' slightly different responses.
