New job: would you disclose and ask for accommodations?

I am starting a new job in a couple of months (long notice period for my current job).

I am hoping to have at least an ASD diagnosis by the time I start and maybe ADHD as well. I have struggled a lot in my current job, but I don't really know what accommodations to ask for.

My new role is in a big corporate and I have no idea how they would respond to a disclosure. Would you disclose upfront or maybe give it a while? In some ways, I would rather be upfront instead of waiting to fail and then asking for accommodations IYSWIM

How do you think you will fail - can you work backwards from the worst case scenario?

I work for a big corporate (bigger than big, like top in the world!) and have disclosed and have adjustments. My manager is awesome- no issues with putting them in place and he defends them if anyone tries to argue.

it’s hugely proceduralised so there is no room for anyone to prejudice/have an opinion- it’s just a conversation with Occ Health (who are full of suggestions), a report sent to management/HR, stuff put it in place.

you are 100% right that they would rather have this from day 1 rather than anything to happen e.g. any kind of performance issue and for you then to disclose- they may find that frustrating, particularly if there’s things they could have done at onboarding/training to help!

also many large corporates are now jumping on the bandwagon in terms of having a neurodiversity programme! Try googling your company name + Autism at Work or Neurodiversity in Business
