Is this what NT feels like?! (On meds!)

After 7 years of knowing I have inattentive adhd I started medication this week. Inside my head is so quiet!
I didn’t know it was possible to feel like this and it’s strange.
Can anyone relate?

Yep...it's how I feel when I take my ADHD meds. It's like living life on easy mode. I can think clearly, just get stuff done, not procrastinate.

Unfortunately, I pay a heavy price because of side effects, so I can't take them all the time.

HappyBinosaur · 24/06/2022 22:43

What do you take?

Concerta, what do you take?

HappyBinosaur · 24/06/2022 22:45

Elvanse

How are you finding it? Any side effects or too early to tell?

HappyBinosaur · 24/06/2022 22:55

Probably too early to tell and I’m starting in a low dose. My son takes concerta and it works well for him but the psychiatrist I saw gave me the choice and Elvanse seemed like it might suit me better.
I noticed the ‘feeling’ didn’t last more than a few hours but it definitely made a difference. I was calm but alert and my brain was quiet - that’s the best way I can describe it. No constant commentary or daydreaming, and having one thought at a time instead of a constant spider diagram of thoughts.

Yep, that's how mine feels too! Spider diagram is an interesting way to describe it...that's how I also see it!

HappyBinosaur · 24/06/2022 22:58

What does do you take? My son takes 72mg which is quite high but he’s been so lucky and had no side effects apart from slight lack of appetite. He doesn’t take it every day.
I am taking mine every day for the first month to get used to it. It’s made a big difference at work.
Just for context we both have strong ASD traits too (my son is diagnosed but I’m not).

My head is a cross between a spider diagram and a tangled up ball of wool!

I'm in France, where it's virtually impossible to get meds, but I did take a supplement (worked for a couple of weeks only, sadly) and I spent a couple of hours, thinking "wow, is this how an NT brain is?". So quiet and restful! Only one tab open in my brain at a time 😮

puddleduck234 · 27/06/2022 18:40

😂 yes yes and yes!!!

I ran out of meds this week, and I noticed when I was walking the dog how much my brain bloody talks 🤦🏻‍♀️. The meds slow my thought process right down and helps so much.

notyourmam · 28/06/2022 12:10

Which supplement was that @hoorayandupsherises? Mucuna?

hoorayandupsherises · 28/06/2022 13:19

@notyourmam yes, that's it. I don't think the levels of vitamins C and B6 were right though. The doctor has suggested trying again with slightly different dosage.

notyourmam · 28/06/2022 18:49

@hoorayandupsherises oh interesting, thanks. I didn't realise vit C and B6 had a bearing on it. I tried it and had the same temporary effects you had - I thought the loss of effectiveness might be related to a bad batch later on though. I was planning on giving it another go at some point, from a different source.
