...."it was found that boys with ASD were significantly less likely than TD boys to prefer yellow and more likely than TD boys to prefer green and brown colors. These results appear to be caused by hyper-sensation characteristic of ASD, due to which boys with this disorder perceive yellow as being sensory-overloading."
(TD is typically developing)

I find this very interesting because I really can't stand some shades of yellow. I'm OK with a muted shade, but florescent actually hurts my eyes and gives me sensory overload.

Is anyone else here the same?

This was one of the flags that helped identify DS when he was about 3.

Oh really? That's fascinating!
What would he do? Show an obvious dislike?

I can't remember if hated it or liked it but nursery definitely picked up on it. He's nearly 20 now so it must have been a thing for a while.

I am shocked I love yellow!
not bright yellow like fluorescent but I love yellow things and have a yellow front room

I like yellow too. Not garish or fluorescent yellow, but there are some lovely, uplifting and also warm shades in the yellow colour spectrum.

Yellow also represents Wednesday to me (I have synesthesia) and I like Wednesdays, so by association, I like yellow (makes sense to me 😂😂😂)

I love synesthesia! I wish I could experience it for a day.
Do you see the colours in your minds eye? How does it work for you?

It's hard to describe! I didn't even know synesthesia was a thing until I got my autism diagnosis a few years back. I just assumed that it happened to everyone 😂

For days of the week - if, for example, I think of or say a day of the week, the colour for that day is the thing I visualise (the colours have been the same since childhood). Also, food has colours. Things taste brown, yellow, red, blue etc etc. This food colour thing caused a lot of problems in childhood and has probably contributed to picky/fussy eating that has dominated my life. Emotions also have colours. This morning I feel green (and in my minds eye, I see green similar to Calke Green from the Farrow and Ball paint chart) - calm and rested for now; the colour will change as the day progresses.

I also experience physical sensations to external stimuli which can be unpleasant such as experiencing intense pain when listening to some music. I really dislike that element of it.

Wow, that is absolutely fascinating!

I like yellow a lot. It's my second-favourite colour. When I was a kid I had a pad of intensely-coloured sheets of paper, and I'd turn to the yellow section and hold it right in front of my eyes so I was completely submersed in YELLOW.

Really? I guess I hadn't thought about bright colours affecting people that way but it makes sense. I love bright colours but get that feeling from loud noises, some touches, and busy patterns, among other things. For me the bright yellow blatted out everything else that might bother me Grin

There is a shade of bright, orangey neon pink which makes my eyes hurt to look at it. I suspect a sheet of paper that colour held up to my eyes would make me feel nauseous.

But I really like some shades of warm yellow. I saw an artwork which was just a huge canvas (maybe 3 m x 2 m) of warn yellow, with slight variations of colour so it didn't look flat or boring, and I loved standing in front of it so that it filled my whole field of view. It felt really good, almost being bathed in the colour yellow.
