Which textures do you hate?

Denim is vile. Its rigid, rough and your skin can't breath.

Velvet feels nice in one direction, but the other way sets my teeth on edge.

Microfiber sticks to my fingers in a really weird way, I can't pick it up.

Polystyrene Envy squeaky horrible stuff.

I agree with all of the above.

Additionally, I hate nylon - static. Polyester - static. They smell weird too.

Food texture - mush. I could not eat mashed potato if you paid me. And cheese. The smell makes me feel sick and the texture 🤮

I have loads of other food issues that I won't bore you with 😂

ofwarren · 23/06/2022 18:59

I forgot about the static of nylon. Urghh.

100% this: especially touching wet washing and then accidentally finding one of the very few wooden clothes pegs that remain in the peg bag (I've done my best to hunt and destroy them all, but for some reason, there's always one left).

Plastic clothes pegs hurt my tree-hugging environmentalist soul, but it is what it is, unfortunately.

Cotton wool - when it’s pulled apart and the noise it makes when rubbed (like removing nail polish)

Denim - so uncomfortable

BertieBotts · 24/06/2022 23:09

I know exactly what you mean about microfibre but I've always liked it? So weird. It feels like it's catching on every microscopic snag of skin. It makes me think of those zoomed in views of skin in science textbooks and dandruff shampoo adverts.

I hate the feeling of silk, and nylon tights. I used to refuse to touch my mum's tights if I was doing the washing.

Even just reading your description of microfibre made me rub my fingers together in disgust Grin

Microfibre (shudder)
cornflour - I hate the feeling of putting a spoon into it and the feeling on my fingers is awful.
polyester is hard to wear.
There’s another synthetic that was popular in the 60s. I don’t know if it’s still made but my aunt had curtains made from it. Just awful to touch.
Lambswool makes me itchy.
Chalk

I cannot bear halloumi squeaking on my teeth.
wet scrambled egg - egg is borderline for me.

I opened this thread thinking I don’t have any that bother me. Huh.

I'm OK with textures, it's certain noises I absolutely can't stand (not just dislike it, but literally make me want to stab myself through my brain..!!!). Are these textures triggers similar to noise triggers?

They might be for others, but not for me. I don't like touching the textures but my main triggers are noise like you.

I hate wet socks!! Step on a bit of wet and the fuckers come off.

Also second cornstarch, though I am getting better with messy play with my tot. Yesterday made the perfect cornstarch/water mix and I could have spent hours playing! Shame my DD wasn't at all interested

Tilly10too · 29/06/2022 21:17

The feel of knitted wool or acrylic against my skin is awful, having to wear the official school jumper was terrible as a child. Cotton wool is also horrible. I hate the mealy texture of lentils and butter beans, but am ok with kidney beans or baked beans. Soft scrambled egg, and porridge make me gag.

WeirdPookah · 06/07/2022 13:29

Fleece!

I had to wear one for a job once, I washed it with nasty harsh washing powder, on a hot wash, several times, to destroy the feeling of it.

I also hate cotton wool and microfibre. We have some weird synthetic dolls clothes I can't touch as well, goodness knows what they are made of.

Food wise, anything gritty is awful, the tiniest bit of egg shell left, or asparagus with a little sand still caught. Urgh.
