I have a gut feeling about my 5 year old son with ref autism, do I mention to his teacher even though he is good as gold at school or go to GP?

It depends on what the referral pathway is in your area. In our area it starts with school however in the neighbouring area you have to go via the gp.
Speak to school first and take it from there.
