ADHD diagnosis - will it affect insurance, etc???

Name changed.

I've been aware for quite some years I've got ADHD but despite struggles have put off seeking a diagnosis as am worried it'll affect my life insurance, driving capacity re DVLA, etc. Has anyone experience of this either way? And what else it might affect/who what I might have to notify?

Would be amazing to feel (occasionally) normal if I also choose to go down the meds route but equally wary of the stigma. I am not blind to the ignorance/prejudice surrounding this particular branch of ND (plenty of it on MN for starters) but as DD is looking likely to be following suit am also aware I might have to take the bull by the horns....

You only have to inform DVLA if you (you can ask your doctor if you’re not sure) think it would affect you driving safely. Mine doesn’t so I don’t have to. The only time it really affects me insurance wise is holiday insurance - I have to declare and it’s a bit more. I’d assume life insurance works the same but I don’t have it personally

My DH has ADHD and it doesn’t affect driving license or life or travel insurance.

Thanks Discovereads that's reassuring. Did he tell them or has he just decided not to mention on the basis of it being 'mild'?

Like a PP has mentioned, it’s worth declaring to your insurance. They could use it as an excuse to wriggle out of, or reduce a payment. I have a few health issues and my insurance isn’t massively different to my DP who does not.

Oh, he told them and most of the agents on the phone have said it has zero impact on his premium/costs as ADHD doesn’t shorten your life or cause you to cancel holiday plans.
