How do you carry your "things"?
ofwarren · 23/04/2022 20:35
I have a rucksack which is obviously good for purse, face masks etc but what do you do with the things you use on and off frequently? I HATE handbags, the different weight on one side of my body is disorientating.
I swap glasses around often, so sunglasses on, normal distance glasses off, my phone gets looked at frequently so it's annoying in a backpack and also I carry fidget of some type and again, don't want to dip into a backpack for it.
My main outfit is leggings based so no good pockets.
I'm considering a bumbag... I know they are seen as a bit laughable but I seriously think it would make things easier for me. I could stop having to reach round to the bag on my back.

Sunglasses hooked in front of my top, phone in jeans/legging pocket. I also hate handbags. Some type of rucksack for anything else
I've tried the glasses hooked on my top but hate how they fall out sometimes when I lean over.

I used to carry a rucksack and still do if I'm out for the day. Otherwise, my keys go round my neck on a cord that I made and my phone is stuffed down my bra top along with a tissue for my nose. I don't carry a bankcard or purse because I have googlepay on my phone.

Have you tried a sling pack op? Like a one strap back pack?
It's so handy as it holds plenty and when I want access stuff, I can just swing is around to the front without taking it off etc.
I've not but I don't like an uneven feeling and that sounds like it would trigger that sensation. I can't wear odd socks or one shoe even slightly tighter for the same reason.

I do sometimes shove my phone in my bra top if I'm at home and am cooking for example. I don't think I'd feel comfortable fishing down my top when I'm out though.

bum bags were in on too long ago. So I would just do that.
otherwise a jacket with pockets? I envy my dd’s blazer with inside pockets
I've just bought one from amazon. It's only £16 but it's got good reviews and lots of compartments.

It doesn't with me, as it sort of sits dead middle of the back, right on the spine... Like slinging a bum bag over your shoulder.. If that makes sense. But the single strap does do just over one shoulder TBF.

Trespass Dax Bumbag / Waistbag / Hippack (2.5 Litres) (One Size) (Black) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01027HTLS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_PJG6QDETXRAR007RZYAY?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21
I had this small one, plus a bigger one that was also Trespass, but is no longer available. I did occasionally use them over one shoulder and it was ok if they didn't have too much in them.

You can get pouches that attach to rucksack straps

My mum uses one of these for her glasses, albeit in a different design. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unisex-Strong-Magnetic-Eye-Glasses-Spectacle-Sunglasses-Holder-Clip-Brooch-UK-/194817241077?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0.
Yous you invest in leggings with a pocket I find those are great for phone. Or get an 'invisible'/flat bum bag for phone, which sits flush against your body? Similar to these...

I started wearing either a hoodie, or fleece, or coat, with deep pockets so when I am out and about I can stick all those things in it. I don't know what I'll do when the summer arrives! I can totally relate to the lop-sided feeling, I too need to feel 'even' on both sides.

My bumbag/fanny pack arrived today and its soooo much better!
I'm currently carrying my sunglasses, my normal glasses and my phone while I listen to iTunes.
No more putting things down and not being able to find them.
Awesome stuff...
You're thread has tempted me into a little 'fanny' pack, so I'm glad it's working for you.

Glad you found a solution OP!
Another suggestion which I'll leave here in case it helps anyone: I love my Kipling Creativity Purse. Not really a purse, more of a multi-function pouch. Big enough to hold lots of bits (especially the largest size) and has a wrist strap. Amazon has loads of generic pouches along similar lines, but I like the Kipling for its many pockets.
