Hyperfocus

Looking for advice on 7 year old ds with hyperfocus. He has always been utterly obsessed with something, the thing changes over time. Whatever it is at the time he talks about non-stop, wants to dress as, centres all his play around etc. He is in the process of being assessed for dyspraxia due to motor skills issues, distractability, sensory issues etc. I don't think hyperfocus is normally a symptom of dyspraxia though.

The issue is more around how to discuss with him and to make a good environment for him. He is getting to an age now where kids just won't want to play with him as he never wants to compromise on the game. It has to be the thing, which other kids aren't necessarily interested in. Adults are also less patient with him now he is older and less likely to agree to discuss for hours on end. I love him to bits, but even so I end up saying change the subject. Looking for advice on how to support him with what he loves and help him maintain friendships.
