ADHD Meds & Exercise

Quick question to those on meds - as I am contemplating whether to give them a go or not: Do they affect your energy levels in any way that you think they would be detrimental to your physical activity? I am training for a race and I'm wondering if they will help or hinder me training wise? I don't want to be any more tired or it to disrupt my training?

Just bumping for you

They won’t make you more tired but they’ll make your heart rate higher - I don’t take my meds on weekends and my HR when exercising tops out around 165, but on weekdays when I have taken them it’ll top out around 190 and sometimes slightly higher. They can also increase your BP which will make you feel a bit bleurgh.

Thanks - I am training for an endurance event and typically am trying to to keep my heart rate right down whilst training which I've considered the meds might interfere with. Same thing with antidepressants - difficult to weigh up which is more important or more of a hindrance - if I can't train my mental health will plummet but then not taking any meds also makes life that much more difficult and my impulsive nature that much more risky when I'm not in a good headspace. But the 'getting used to them' period of taking new meds is a right pain too such that I'm not sure what to do - on the other hand if I can't keep my headspace together I'll end up not being able to train in any case but whilst I want to try and do what I can to help manage the many issues I have with focus etc I also don't want to feel so lousy or tired I can't fulfill my training schedule. The training is I guess my current 'hyperfocus' that is keeping me together and I'm not wanting to let go of it. I hate being the complicated person that is me.

I found they made my energy levels so much better. I was always exhausted and had brain fog just from existing pre-medication. I would wake up absolutely exhausted every single day - like I hadn't been to sleep at all.

Now I happily bounce out of bed at 5:45 and do a 45 minute spin class and still have a ton of energy afterwards. Medication has enabled me to get in the best shape of my life.
