Phoned the doctors surgery to order repeat prescriptions for me, dh and ds. Apparently I was going too quickly, so I slowed down, but I was still going too fast so she told me off 😮

I don't know when I'm supposed to speak, have adhd so tend to blurt things out and low self esteem so I don't like to ask people to do things for me. Plus, telephone 😖

I've told the others they'll have to phone in their own scripts from now on. They don't have online ordering.

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation so sorry you had to deal with this. I find speaking on the phone a nightmare at the best of times and the doctors surgery even more so

EatSleepRantRepeat · 07/03/2022 17:04

What nobs! Who should know better about dealing with customers with additional needs than a doctor's surgery? Don't worry @BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation every GP receptionist I've ever dealt with has had a god complex, my current surgery is the worst.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 07/03/2022 18:02

They do have a box in the surgery where you can ask for a script on a bit of paper, so I might use that instead. I hardly speak to people on the phone.

Do they do online ordering? You shouldn’t need to go and stick a bit of paper through the letterbox.

I can order mine by emailing the pharmacy that is near to the surgery.

If you get your medication from the same pharmacy all the time, ask them if they do a repeat ordering service.

I agree that DH and DS can sort out their own (if DS is old enough).

Taking repeat Px orders over the phone is very bad practice and should not be happening due to the potential for errors.

In the absence of online ordering, this is the way to go!!!

Avoid the phone at all costs. It's a stress trigger for so many of us, so anything you can do you avoid the phone will help.

Being told off must've been horrible, you're not a child Angry

Telephone, I feel my body shaking literally each time when I have to dial a number... You have my sympathy!

My GP practice reduced me in tear today (not in front of them but after I got back to my car). Most of them don't really care about the patient's wellbeing, just wanting to send you away/finish the call by making up some sort of non-existing path and point it to you to go down.

I know what you feel. But remember - we try harder than those neuro-typical people! We've done a better job than a lot!

They replaced the prescription phone line here with online ordering just before Covid. What a blessed relief! I tall way too fast and interrupt a lot. It's so much less stressful. Plus, if it says for example my Codeine script is due for review I can just type "My Rheumatologist has written to you already about this. Please respect his authority" rather than get upset / angry / agitated and stressed at having to do that verbally.

I'd be tempted to send your surgery an email to ask them when they will be considering launching online scripts. As others have said though, post box until they drag themselves into 2022.
