I've been waiting since 9am for a phonecall 😥

I need Fexofenadine antihistamine prescribing because I'm full of allergies and they're affecting my sight now.

I received a call this morning, but it went straight to voicemail because I had my phone with me in the kitchen. She left a message, but hasn't phoned back. I've been told she will, but the surgery closes at 6pm.

I'm absolutely ill with the worry 😖 I feel sick, I can't leave the room because reception is best in there, no landline, I'm shaking with anxiety, headache, just feel horrible. I really need these meds.

I don't know how I'm going to be able to speak if she does call.

I'm so sorry to hear this :( It sounds beyond stressful :(

As a roundabout solution, you can buy it over the counter under the brand name Allevia. I'd do that, and put a note through the GP letterbox when they're shut asking them to send the prescription to a pharmacy to collect tomorrow.

Not sure if that helps or not. It's very longwinded but avoids having to use the phone, and that god awful frozen feeling when the call doesn't happen.

Also, do you have online access? They might have already prescribed it but not rang to tell you.

Oh you poor thing. There is nothing worse than being left hanging like that.
Would you be able to call them?
My Dr's did something similar to me last week.

People with Autism need to be seen in person as phone calls are far too stressful in my opinion.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 03/03/2022 17:26

I thought it was prescription only in the UK.

I got it prescribed online last month and then planned on getting the GP to prescribe it after that just so it's on my medical record.

I've called twice and been told she'll still call, but I don't think she will. I feel like my head's going to burst.

Sometimes I get so stressed I can't answer my phone properly and it gets cut off. I hardly get phonecalls and I can never remember the technique for answering the phone as sometimes you have to swipe and sometimes you just press.

I can't tell if it's OTC dh is taking me to Boots. Still no phonecall

Oh, I totally sympathise. I can't settle at all when I am expecting a call. Keep checking the phone to make sure I haven't accidentally put the phone on silent, or its lost its signal etc. Have to take it everywhere with me even to the loo. Getting tense and going over and over what I need to say. And that 'gut' feeling that the call just isn't going to happen.

Is it at all feasible to go to the surgery and hand them/post the prescription request or will they insist on a phone consultation?

I hope you manage to find an OTC version in Boots, even if it's not full strength it might take the edge off your symptoms.

She phoned! I'm getting it prescribed.

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

She phoned! I'm getting it prescribed.
That's great :) Can you now have a relaxing evening?
LemonViolet · 03/03/2022 18:28

For future, lots of medications like this you can get prescribed online without having to talk to anyone. You just fill out the form and as long as your answers add up they will prescribe and post it to you. You pay the private cost which could be more, or could be less than the NHS fee. For example www.pharmacyonline.co.uk/online-doctor/hay-fever-allergies/fexofenadine/

I hate talking on the phone to anyone so any way to avoid it is good by me!

ThymePoultice · 03/03/2022 18:30

Getting things onto repeat after the first prescription never seems to go smoothly. Glad you got it sorted.
