Me vs The Light!

No, I haven't gone over to The Dark Side, but I do need it to be dark to sleep and my estate is lit up like Wembley Stadium 😖 there's also lights from a factory shining over and the people in a nearby house have a massive security light which is shining even though there's a streetlight right opposite their house. We don't even live in a high crime area.

We have a blackout blind and curtains, but the light still manages to creep in around the edges. The cat also likes to sit on the windowsill and watch outside at all hours so I can't have the blind fully down.

Another streetlight opposite our house was bothering both us and our neighbour, so I managed to get into the control panel and switch it off. I'm fighting a losing battle though. I can't wear an eye mask overnight.

Why do people have to have it so bright all the time?

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

We can't move as we don't have the energy left for anything 😄

It's mainly the factory that's bothering me. I can't talk to the neighbour as their light can't be angled.

Maybe I could email the factory. They'll just laugh at me though.

You can still talk to your neighbour and show them the photo. They could put a lower wattage bulb in, or a softer colour (think warm white instead of bright white etc), or even a peice of wood next to it so it blocks some of the light coming your way. There are things they can do but only if they know it is affecting others.

I would image there is some bylaw regarding commercial premises affecting residential areas. Definitely worth contacting the council as well as the factory. It may only require tweaking the angle of the lights so not exactly hard for them to do. Again, back up your complaint with lots of photos as some people have zero imagination and therefore won't understand the problem unless they can see it with their own eyes.

Good luck, our kitchen one made me miserable enough and yours is a hundred times worse Flowers

I've emailed the factory and attached the photo.

Good luck with your requests, I hope they are sympathetic!

I had to smile at the picture of the cat window in the blind Grin My cat was so set in his ways he would have gone behind the blind then sat with his head through the window meowing to be let in...

A response!

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email.

We will speak with the warehouse team and see if the light can be tilted.

🤔

Tilted? How about re-siting the bloody thing!!!

Having said that, at least they replied. And quite quickly too. If there's no improvement, do you think you will you email back?

Pixiedust1234 · 24/02/2022 14:27

Oh wonderful! Let's hope they tilt them enough. If not please contact them again with before and after pictures as they won't know. And keep us updated too, it might give others the push to do something

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/02/2022 16:06

Yeah, I'll contact them again if nothing is done. I'll also try to locate their MD and the council if I get no joy.

Barrow,, that is excellent news, and if it doesn't work keep on at 'em Grin Now for your neighbours!

Local councillors and MPs can also be useful, especially if they actually do live locally and know the place. DP calls me a green ink user as I often write to local MPs (and MSPs - there are many and various here!) I informed him that the Head of MI6 uses green ink, so if I were to use it...

We have motorized double layer cellular blackout shades. Then on top of those, we have blackout curtains that just hang at the edges To block the remaining sliver because it turns out the channels for the shades don’t actually work as well as the movies make them look so the sales people advised we not get them. Having the heavy cellular shades on a motor that is remote controlled means it’s easy to get the room opened up for the day.

Light at night is my nemesis. I actually keep my whole house pretty dim all the time. As a child, my sister used to joke that I was a vampire.
