Dd needs ADHD diagnosis. Where to go?

My 21 year old dd has been assessed as haveing ADHD (+ dyslexia) by her uni. Her GP is putting her on the waiting list for an NHS assessment, but it is over a year long and we are aware the NHS doesn't have a great reputation for diagnosing girls, so we are wondering if we should try to get her a private assessment. Do any of you have experience with this? Her finals are looming and she is havening real difficulties keeping up with lectures now, so she is very keen to possibly try medication. Her GP however seems to have indicated they may not be willing to prescribe based on a private diagnosis. Have any of you got advice on where to go? I have no experience with this and feel really guilty to never have realised. We are southwest Oxfordshire and southwest London based, if that is relevant.

I went through psychiatry uk for a private diagnosis Andy Montgomery but now on waiting list for nhs meds where they may reassess me. I couldn’t justify the private prescription costs but may go back privately.

Thank you bothSmile

@LadyCurd, so if you don't mind me asking, did your GP not accept your private diagnosis, so you're having to go through the whole rigmarole of waitinglist and diagnosis again on the NHS?
