I'm having a very nice day at work (wireframing a new system overview with a new tool I haven't used before, but is SO much better than Visio!).

Haven't got dressed yet, so pootling away at my laptop in my dinosaur pyjamas (well, they're not actually dinosaurs - they're moose, but they look like dinosaurs if you squint) with a gilet on top. Grin

Need to give the cats their lunch, though - they normally shout at OH, but he's gone into the office today, so they're stuck with me...

What y'all up to?

I'm sat on my chair (nobody else is allowed on my chair) while the kids play on the xbox next to me.
It's obviously loud and will very soon cause me to need my headphones on but I'm currently coping with my squashy banana that has those water beads in.

I'm going to have to get up and go to the shop soon as I haven't done our weekly shop and literally have nothing in for tea.

I've not done much today apart from laundry and bringing the kids toyboxes downstairs from the play room.

AffIt · 15/02/2022 16:46

@ofwarren

Tell me about your squishy banana (I think I need one of these)?

Been out to a museum drop in thing and lunch out earlier (DS loves a good cafe!) and trying to do maths with him (current special interest) while reading my book and MNing! Going on a rare night out later with a friend, already excited qnd qnxious about it in equal measure!

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 15/02/2022 16:57

Been to The Range for some wool and Lidl for some food. Trying to eat healthily and low carbing. No pet care today, so just looking after my cats and doing housework.

I got a dashcam the other day, so I've been watching my journeys on my phone 🤦‍♀️ life is so exciting 😄

Just £2 from The Works!
They have a lot of good fidget/stim toys actually.

I get stimulatory feedback from both squeezing it and also watching the balls move round. It's great!

AffIt · 15/02/2022 17:15

@ofwarren - I am 100% getting one of those wee guys, looks brilliant - thank you for the tip!

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation - mate, I would not only be watching those journeys back with you, but I would probably ask for your data downloads so that I could do some quick analysis too... #Excel4Lyfe...

@MagratLancre - which museum did you go to? I LOVE your username, btw - I am a HUGE PTerry fan, recently finished a new book I bought online called 'Pratchett's Women', which is a collection of essays of feminist literary criticism about Magrat, Granny, Nanny, Susan Sto Helit etc. Highly recommended!

MagratLancre · 15/02/2022 17:44

Thanks @AffIt I've just ordered the book! Just a local museum but it was nice.

I spent far longer than I should at work today messing about with a spreadsheet to get it perfect and add fancy bits, which was really just a way putting off less congenial tasks!

Now relaxing with the cat by my shoulder Smile .

Spreadsheets and cats sounds like an absolutely perfect day!

Are you a VBA coder?

Bit of a weird day here.

Yesterday didn’t go to plan due to someone else’s cock up, and I don’t cope well with that sort of thing.

I’ve started Elvanse after using Methylphenidate Instant Release for a year, on the full 20mg 3 times a day dose and having too many lingering symptoms.

Me and DD3(6) have spent most of the day doing low key activities whilst the cleaners were here and waiting for deliveries; I’ve done some laundry and as per usual, DDs1&2 (13/11) are an hour late back from my ex’s.

But it’s been nice, quiet and calm, which is exactly what I needed.

BoardLikeAMirror · 15/02/2022 18:06

No, not a coder @AffIt - my role involves a lot of data and trend analysis and presenting it in a way that will make sense to senior people, so I spend a lot of time putting spreadsheets and PowerPoints together, but I much prefer Excel to PowerPoint!

Being with my cats all day is brilliant - I'm really glad I can WFH full-time since Covid.

I’ve just signed up to learn Python via Code First Girls (free via my Uni; I’m a Microbiology student) and I’m really looking forward to it. I dabbled in it via an app on my iPad a lot during the lockdowns.

Namechangeagain84 · 15/02/2022 18:13

I've been to the cinema today with DC to see Sing 2. I normally hate children's films but loved all the music so this one was good.
I've had a lovely week of working, sorting, cleaning etc. I've got a week off and am happy pottering.
The daffodils and catkin DH bought me are making me happy too.

Namechangeagain84 · 15/02/2022 18:15

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation you've reminded me that I need to dig out my dashcam. I don't know why I don't use it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fantastic!

If you're looking for more resources to learn / UAT Python or R, I highly recommend looking at the learning resources on Postman, also.

Was Sing 2 good? I loved the first one.

I repotted the lilies that got their pot smashed by the last storm and moved all the pots to I hope a safer place as we are in the firing line for the next storm Dudley tomorrow.

Then I made some Italian meatballs (polpette) and made a load of tomato and vegetable sauce in the slow cooker for the meatballs and other pasta dishes.

Tried not to lose my temper with MIL who filled the bowl of clean vegetables for the tomato sauce with coffee grounds after I asked her not to drop them down the sink as the pipes clog all the time - and then added her toast crumbs - ugh!, She then told me she had done it deliberately to annoy me then flounced off after telling me how she used to have servants! Shock. I really hate this part of my life as she has always been very unpleasant towards me Sad Not a mumsnet MIL, but really truly deeply unpleasant.

Decided I want to watch the 'how to train your dragon' films, but will have to find them online if they are available.

LightfoldEngines · 16/02/2022 01:12

@LilyRed oooft I will not type how I’d have reacted to that Angry

How To Train Your Dragon films are brilliant, we love them. I think they were on Netflix, might not be now. I bought them on Prime a while back, as DDs find Prime easier to navigate.

Namechangeagain84 · 16/02/2022 02:43

@AffIt yes it was very good; I loved the eclectic mix of music. DC loved it too so was definitely a winner.

Namechangeagain84 · 16/02/2022 02:48

@LilyRed so your MIL dropped coffee on purpose into a bowl of clean veg?! Then had the audacity to tell you she used to have servants? I would have been very upset at this!

LilyRed · 16/02/2022 12:17

@Namechangeagain84 - she has dementia which is getting worse behaviour-wise. Many dementia carers liken it to an abusive relationship (I have experience of those and still have problems processing so I will rarely talk about it and do not always engage in threads about past lives)

DP and I decided we would care for her some years ago and she has been living with us for four years, but she was dreadful before and no better now. We would like her to move into a nursing home but she refuses.

I do not recommend being a dementia carer if you are ND. It is very difficult.

I've done a codefirstgirls before, hope you enjoy it! FYI if you struggle with the final group project, you can ask to do it solo, I did mine solo, as I struggle with group work.
Namechangeagain84 · 16/02/2022 12:55

@LilyRed I am sorry to hear that, it must be extremely tough. Its something I worry about for the future.

I hope you are able to get the care you need for her soon Flowers

LilyRed · 16/02/2022 13:31

@LightfoldEngines thankyou for the recommendation! Grin I shall have a look later.

I know this is a silly question as I'm probably older than a lot of you, but what will you use your coding skills for?

I'm supposed to have a high IQ but my brain bounces off the explanations I have met with. I also suffer from dyscalculia, but love engineering / finding how things work and geometry!
