What do you do well?

I am SPECTACULARLY well-organised - everything is run by Excel in our house - and I can pack the smallest thing into a microscopic space.

What do you do well?

The household budget. Cashflow forecasts.
Filing.
Cobbling stuff together from scraps.

Numbers. - Telephone numbers, account numbers, my debit and credit card numbers. The then bank account number of my first employer 25 years ago is still rattling round in my head! Any sequence of numbers but only if they are in the right blocks. For example if my phone number was 07773733111 and you read it like that I would be unable to recognise it. I would have to repeat it as 07773 733 111.
You could repeat it ten times in a variety of combinations and I would not be able to recognise it in any other way except my blocks.

Knowing where everything is in my workspace but being completely unable to explain to anyone else where anything is 😂
I work from home and my room is full of boxes, drawers etc.
I get into a real muddle if I try to describe where something is and end up waving and yelling "that one no down no over no thingie no next no... "
And I'll say the green one when I mean the pink one or left when I mean right. 🤦

So I took a marker pen and came up with my number system.

I have labelled each box with a number and each set of drawers with a set number and drawer number eg set 4 drawer 6 means the 4th set of drawers, 6th drawer down.

and now I don't even have to look up. I just say 14 or 6-3 or whatever.

Oooh, I love this.

I normally use alphabetical sequencing, but this - this I could get on board with.

Procrastinate

IncompleteSenten · 03/02/2022 19:22

Id really recommend giving it a try

It works perfectly for me. I am so much better with numbers than letters.

Not that you'd know it from the essays I write on here 😂
Oddly I can write loads but would struggle to say all that clearly and coherently to you!

AffIt · 03/02/2022 19:34

@IncompleteSenten

I absolutely shall! I'm a huge fan of better systems. Smile

not me at all... I get green and yellow mixed up not green and pink

I don't think i could cope with the drawer thing to fix it either.

felulageller · 04/02/2022 06:44

I'm good at making a budget- doing income and expenditure etc (not so good at sticking to it- that my impulsivity!)

felulageller · 04/02/2022 06:46

Oh yes packing too- DP will say the car is full but I can arrange twice as much into a 3d space.

I'm good at grand plans and planning holidays/ trips.

ofwarren · 04/02/2022 08:33

I don't think I'm good at anything at all. I'm one of those really unskilled autistics. I fail or give up at everything I try and my mind just flits from one special interest to another which I just "research" all day long. I'm so tired of doing it.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 04/02/2022 16:34

I'm good at big, complex projects that involve focusing really hard, and coming up with designs and solutions.

I'm good at working with clients when it comes to listening to what they need, quickly mocking up ideas, then adapting them according to their feedback.

I'm awful at setting up systems or following them, but I accept my failings and either give the work to someone else, or get someone else to help hold me accountable.

I'm really good at working out how anything digital works, but useless with anything physical.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/02/2022 19:19

@ofwarren I am a jack of all trades too. That was useful when I used to teach infants.

IncompleteSenten · 05/02/2022 20:31

I am good at packing stuff too.
My family call me putting groceries away as shopping tetris. They'll be telling me there's no room and I'll go in and put everything properly and then magically, there's loads of free space. 🙄

AffIt · 06/02/2022 02:04

Those of you who are good at packing - are you also good at parking cars?

I can literally park anything on a postage stamp and have a (highly unscientific) theory that there may be a part of the autistic brain that is 'super-powered' with regard to spatial awareness.

I’m good at customer service and talking to people. I’m awful with numbers and organising as I get easily overwhelmed.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/02/2022 09:36

I'm good at looking after things. People, animals, plants. I instinctively know what to do to help things and heal them. I suppose it's called nurturing.
