Going to see a speech therapist next week and I'm nervous

Due to both ADHD and social anxiety my voice can be quite monotone and it's something that I am really trying to work on. Things seem to have gotten worse in the last year or so to the point where I feel uncomfortable even speaking with people I love and trust and speaking on the phone sends me into a major panic.

I am going to see a speech therapist next week who specialises in helping neurodiverse people of all ages. She has received very good reviews, but I'm pretty nervous because it means looking at myself and my own self consciousness and that's always a little bit uncomfortable, but I keep trying to tell myself that It's for my own good. I'm trying to feel more at ease speaking to people and I'm hoping it will help.

Does anyone have experience in seeing someone like this or overcome just feeling very uncomfortable with speaking to people?

I've never seen a speech therapist. I do struggle with speaking to people. I'm sure the therapist will be able to help you as I've heard good things about what they can achieve.

I have no experience but do come back and let us know how it went.
My voice is very monotone too. I do try and intonate when reading to my kids and that gives me practice but I also think to myself, why should I try and change my voice for other people?

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation (Love your username) :) thank you Flowers

@ofwarren I definitely will. You have a good point. I think I just want to feel more relaxed and confident in speaking with people. Not sure how much of a success it will be, but I'll see :)
