Making it a good week

Hello,

I was browsing the other thread what helps if you have ADHD then I saw there is a new neurodiverse section.

I was diagnosed a few years ago and lockdown has been really hard on my ADHD. Currently I have put weight back on, am behind at work and avoiding looking at my finances. I have also got into a browsing online habit - recently it has been sales shopping. Behind on chores which goes without saying.

I know I can make quite a lot of progress if I just focused! It all feels overwhelming i.e. getting started, but I do find it helps just to focus on the next task. I figure if I could just aim to work on making this day a productive one, and then repeat for a week, this would be achievable with a little motivation from mumsnet and give me the boost I need.

M

Not sure why there was an M, my phone went wierd.

I sometimes get so overhwhelmed that I stay up late thinking I will catch up, then go to sleep and think I will have 2 hours sleep and do what I call a 3am special i.e. start the day at 3am and get things done. Its all about feeling constantly guilty! I woke up at 3 today and have been on my phone for 2 hours! I so need / want to reset my sleep this week.

So, first plan is to get out of bed, wash face (I always find doing hair and makeup helps so much), find some clothes to wear, eat breakfast, turn washing machine on, do a handful of the dishes. Not doing anything else i.e going on my phone!

Feel free to join if an action thread with a bit of reflection with the aim of improving things appeals, plus encouragement.

Oh gosh this sounds like me. I am always feeling behind and hoping I could "just get things done."

I am very overweight too and struggling with lack of sleep and it feels like lots of plates are spinning.

I really really want to Get Things Done today!

Welcome @DaisyTheUnicorn. Feel free to post any goals.

Fully aware the list is never done, just be good if I could find the list!

I'm up, washed, hair and makeup done, dressed, breakfasted, hung up laundry and put another load on, hung that up and put another one on, folded half dry stuff. Its so much easier since I decluttered my clothes as even if I have worn them all its not much more than 3 loads. Before it felt like tonnes.

I also messaged a friend who is struggling. I have faffed a bit online after breakfast, probably for 30 mins or so. However its still dark here and I am starting now!

I'm going to make a plan for the days work (my day job).

Well done!
I have an endless struggle with needing the house ordered and yet feeling overwhelmed by the most mundane of jobs. However when I get a hyperfocus moment I have ruthlesslesly decluttered a random area and this is helping so much. My husband did a huge clear up saturday but it took less time than it did when we had piles everywhere...

I didn't sleep well. I have 2 work tasks to do (very part time) and seeing a friend at 10. I dont feel I can start them til I've seen my friend so I'm online jobhunting as more money would solve the other things ny brain is spinning about (but that starts a new spin of do I retrain/should I take £10 an hour/should I aim higher...)

Ah I know hyperfocus well! I definitely think it can be used to advantage.

Mm I know what you mean about so many job questions. I was in a rut and moved a couple of years ago. It was a sideways move - a sort of transition role, while I get a handle on adhd etc.

Now I've dived into my to do list the day feels much more achievable! Some concerns have turned out not to be concerns. I just need to put things in a sort of order now.

Ok I've got 6 items and if I work quick they should be 25 mins each, so 2.5 hours. I'm feeling unsurprisingly really tired as I had 2 hours sleep. I'm also hungry again as I've been awake longer. Going to have a quick fresh air walk and pick up a second breakfast then put music on and power through.

There's a really good YouTube channel called 'How To ADHD' run by a young woman who has adhd and there's some really good information and advice on there.

I start off with good intentions then something happens and I end up feeling stressed or physically unwell and everything goes to pot.

My thoughts on this are:

Any progress, however small, is still progress.

Routines are important and try to foster good habits. Try to stick to them as much as possible.

It doesn't matter if you failed miserably yesterday, today is a new day, just start over.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 24/01/2022 12:02

Oh yes I have seen that channel, she is really good.

So true about routines and habits. I manage to scaffold some areas of my life but some aren't. Yet anyway!

Had to join a meeting and am now back to working on my tasks. Go me.
