Asslaamu alaikum. My 15 years old daughter's school specialise in Spanish language and it's one of the subject she will be doing on her gcse's. So her school has planned a trip to spain salamanca for 4 nights, where they'd be staying with carefully selected Spanish family and will have 3hrs Spanish lessons each of those days along with other activities. They want deposit already, and I am feeling quite indecisive whether I shall let her go or not. I wanted to asked have any of you sent your daughter's to such trip? If so how was it? Was it beneficial for their GCSE? And did they have halal or vegetarian option of food?

Sounds like an odd set up for a short school trip.

Alaykum salaam. I think it depends how practising/observant your DD is. For example, if the host family isn't Muslim would you be ok with them drinking alcohol at the dinner table? Does she wear hijab and will the host family be respectful of this? Will most socialising be done with the family or with the other students? School trips abroad are a lot of fun, and very enriching; but at the same time it would be awful to be away and stuck in an uncomfortable situation. Does your DD want to go? Can you speak to the school about your concerns?

I don't know what Salamanca is like, but I'd be surprised if there is no halal or vegetarian food available anywhere. There are lots of Arabs in Spain who have their own restaurants and shops. And of course there are Spanish vegetarians too!
