Just that really, any ideas of what to gift teachers at the end of the year?
If you are a teacher, what sort of gifts do you prefer?

I'm giving a little candle and then likely a small box of chocolates too.

anotherlevel · 04/07/2024 09:23

I've heard teachers really like them bic 4 colour pens!

Favouritefruits · 04/07/2024 09:24

Biscuits and chocolate is always a good idea, if the teacher doesn’t want them they can always pop them in the staff room for everyone or give them to their own kids/ food bank nobody needs 30mins/keyrings every 12months.

DD really like getting fancy bits from M and S that she wouldn't normally notice or see herself
She's had chocolate covered nuts and fruit, little packs of biscuits etc. She also had a lovely box of medjool dates from an Irani. A costa or similar gift card seems popular on previous threads.
A card
No present is necessary though

All types of pens!!! Sharpies too. You can’t have too many pens.

AnneButNotHathaway · 04/07/2024 09:36

Definitely not a mug, most teachers have tons of them 😂A personalized notebook+pen set or a custom planner maybe? Stationery is always useful.

Parkingt111 · 04/07/2024 09:43

Oooh I didn't know about pens so il keep that in mind.

Gift voucher for coffee shop or pampering like a nail salon
Anything personalized

Scirocco · 04/07/2024 11:59

Voucher for a local (ethical!) coffee shop?
Pens?
Some charities do little cards that represent a charitable donation? (1 year I gave my parents goats for their anniversary)
Dates! Can't go wrong with dates!
Burfi?

Some great ideas, I need to note all these down. Teachers really do deserve it, they work so hard all year
My little ones teacher is amazing. She's really helped to bring her out of her shell this year.

As a teacher, it's lovely to receive gifts though we really don't expect them. The best are the hand written notes. If you really do want to buy something then please, no mugs. They just end up in the staffroom. I have kept 1 from a student as I don't need 20 best teacher mugs. Although now that I've switched to secondary I'm lucky to get a bye as they head out the door! Chocolate/pen/voucher for coffee shop/bookshop is best after a nice hand drawn picture (I've kept all of those!)

Parkingt111 · 04/07/2024 20:31

@peanutcookie hats off to you, it can't be easy teaching secondary school students. In my time we spent many lessons in total chaos, where the disruptive students were more or less uncontrollable. I hope things have improved since then.
There's still a few teachers who I remember for really trying and caring despite the challenges they faced.

Teacher here too and anything is appreciated. I actually love a mug! Always take them home but I believe I'm in the minority. I love homemade gifts. Also love a pen and post it notes or a notebook. Lots of parents give £5 Costa vouchers and these are really lovely as they're enough for a coffee and a sweet treat.
