Asalamu Alaikum everyone. We are looking for names for a baby girl and came across the name Elisa. What do you think of it or does anyone know any Elisa's and the deeper meaning of the name other than what Google tells me. I want a nice meaning but also a name that is permissible in Islam. Elisa is a lovely name. Am I right in thinking it means wanderer?

Some sources are saying wanderer and some are saying the name is after an Angel at the heaven doors and some are saying precious, the chosen and unique in Arabic.

All lovely meanings! I suppose you could go with the majority? It's a variation of Alisa which means Gods promise from what I can see.

Is it an urdu name or arabic? If arabic do you know how it is spelt?

The only time I’ve come across it is through the Lebanese singer Elissa, who is a big name in the Arab world. She is also a Christian so admittedly, I associate it as a Christian name. However, there are many Arabic names used by both Muslims and Christians. Indeed, my own son has an Arabic name that is used by those from both religions.

Hello everyone again. We have settled with Lejla plus she was born just before midnight lol. We are Balkan Muslims btw hence the spelling. Thank you again but didn't want to risk naming her without entirely knowing the meaning xxx
