Have iTunes on in the background and relaised it's all OLD stuff. I like it but am bored with it, I like Stereophonics, Nirvana, Radiohead etc

What is new that I might like, can anyone recommend please?

I bought the Mumford & Sons CD yesterday and I love it! Dead folky though but in a good way. DD2 and I were dancing like loons to it yesterday and I always think that is a good sign.

cocolepew · 09/03/2010 17:17

I'm quite liking Muse ATM.

ClaireDeLoon · 09/03/2010 22:50

Thnak you have ordered Myumford & Sons from play. What Muse CD would you recommend me to start with? Thanks for your responses

Muse are V.good...(voted best live band last year) I would recommend origin of symmetry and black holes and revelations.

You have to have Greendays American Idiot...some my chemical romance, obv not new bands, but you have to listen to them...and of course Florence and the machine, maybe a bit of fleet foxes..some MGMT, kingsofleon

Don't worry too much about new music, it's all been done before, and usually better....although Friendly fires are good..(newish)... I'm retro atm, I'd recommend you listen to some early 80's stuff...teardrop explodes/OMD....that sort of thing...

IMoveTheStars · 10/03/2010 10:41

The Killers

ClaireDeLoon · 10/03/2010 11:35

Blimey that's loads thanks

My top stuff at the moment are:

Marina & the Diamonds
Ellie Goolding
Empire of the Sun (very MGMT)

There's a new Gorrilaz album out too. Only listened to the first couple of songs but seems good.

skymonkey · 10/03/2010 13:18

new(ish) stuff I like....
Sufjan Stevens, Yeasayer, Iron and Wine, Whitest Boy Alive, Lykke Li, Feist, Felice Brothers also good if you like Mumford & Sons

daftpunk · 10/03/2010 13:28

MGMT

cyteen · 10/03/2010 13:33

The newest Dinosaur Jr album (Farm) is fantastic.

daftpunk · 10/03/2010 13:39

download this when it's released

big up scouting for girls!

Brilliant band....

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/03/2010 13:46

I'm not too hot on what is new as have been living in babyverse for last year. Am but at the news of new Dinosaur Jr album.

If you like Mumford & Sons then a whole world of alt country/ folky loveliness is available to you like Wilco, Bright Eyes, Midlake, Jenny Lewis.

If you like MGMT then try The Postal Service as well.

If you like jangy guitar like Radiohead then try The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, the Decemberists, Vampire Weekend.

Sign up for LastFM and sync your itunes to it, you will then get recommendations based on what you listen too.

cyteen · 10/03/2010 13:49

ChutesTooNarrow, it is superb I've barely played anything else the last month or so (although it came out last year...am slow to catch on now I've got a kid).

Your DS is gorgeous btw, just snuck a look at your profile What a cutie!

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/03/2010 14:07

Have just looked, Dinosaur Jr have had TWO albums out since Hand It Over! To think I used to be an utter music bore obsessive who would have been horrified to know future self would prioritise keeping in touch with music so lowly.

Sunshinemummy · 10/03/2010 15:16

Ooh yes Vampire Weekend are great. Also Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Hot Chip.

mrstimlovejoy · 10/03/2010 19:22

fun lovin criminals classic fantastic great tunes

ClaireDeLoon · 11/03/2010 10:03

Thank you for recommendations, I ordered:

Florence & the Machine
Mumford & sons
Vampire Weekend
The two Muse albums recommended

Claire;

It's always a good idea to check out other types of music...stuff that you may never have listened to....Chase&Status are really good...dance/electronic..(I love that kinda music)..

Listen to this

Listen to it really loud....imagine you're at a club dancing with your mates after you've had 8 vodkas....

malovitt · 12/03/2010 23:32

Maccabees.
Delphic
Big Pink
Bombay Bicycle Club

LyraSilvertongue · 22/03/2010 13:05

Claire de Loon, if you're buying Muse, then Absolution is their best album. Origin of Symmetry, while I think it's utterly brilliant, can be an acquired taste as it's their most experimental album. Prob best to start with BH&R.
If you like those, there are two more albums, Showbiz (their first) and The Resistance (their most recent), plus a live album called Hullabaloo.

maltesermuncher · 23/03/2010 20:13

I recommend listening to albums by the Broken bells, New Young Pony Club, The Duke Spirit and the Kissaway trail. If you fancy something a bit mellower try Cat Power,Eels and Bon Iver.

KidsTunes · 06/04/2010 14:11

My favourite album from last year is from Fever Ray. Kinda cold electronic music, but with a kind of Kate Bush-ish magic to it

Mirrorball · 06/04/2010 14:19

Sia - everything she's done is amazing.

Also William Orbit Odyssey - all his fave tunes in one album - it's fantastic.

Also I listen to Elbow all the time and a bit of Beethoven's piano sonatas never fail to chill me out.

jumblequeen · 08/04/2010 21:49

I work in a record shop and would be more than happy to give recommendations based on old favourites - it's a big part of my job!

BertieBotts · 08/04/2010 21:50

How about Matchbox Twenty? I am listening to them a lot at the moment.
