i'm not in love

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 07:16

I'm in love with a German film star.
nonononononononoooo, 90's was lame. All that Britpop was so lame. Apart from Oasis it was cardboard punk. Don't forget alot of the punk, ska, early electronic music was all still going on in the early 80's. (Forgetting Orville et al)
But then DP you are not as old as me....

2shoes · 18/05/2010 08:25

i'm lost without you

dd's fave band blink 182

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 09:30

Without you

daftpunk · 18/05/2010 09:59

I'm probably not that much younger than you (you're around 43/44...from memory..?)

My dd is 19 and at teacher training college... that makes me feel truely ancient...lol

I love the 90's for the stone roses,(although they were around in the 80's) the charlatans, the verve...all that kinda thing....I'm a massive fan of Oasis... don't look back in anger is a fantastic song..as is wonderwall...but prefer Ryan Adams singing it

'Maybe...you're gonna be the one who saves me'......love it..!

Where I will defend the 90's to the death musically is because it was the decade they gave us Green day (intelligent punk)....best band ever...and bands like Blink-182..

Punk came out of America in the late, 60's....bands like the velvet underground were doing their stuff way before the sex pistols. Malcolm Mclaren didn't "invent" punk...(can someone called "Malcolm" invent anything edgy...?)...he just exaggerated music that was already coming out of New York...

America always do it first..and usually better..

If you've never read the book "Please kill me" I'd defo reco it...all about the punk scene...

daftpunk · 18/05/2010 10:02

Sorry 2shoes...didn't see you there..

everytime I look for you

2shoes · 18/05/2010 11:33

every time I die
(children of bodem)

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 12:17

With or without you.
I am older DP than the figure you put.
I take your point about the origin of Punk. But to me the 90's, it all sounds the same. At least 80's had variety like Punk, New Romantics, Ska, Rock, even reggae to an extent, then bands like U2, Paul Weller, etc. There was a lot of good stuff about and with variety. I don't think since the 80's there has been as much variety.
I am sure will will disagree but there is no way you can call the music of the 80's naff.

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 12:19

Oops got stuck into something at work and found I had left the wondow open! So I completed the post but it had moved on.

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 12:19

Every time you go away. (yuk)

2shoes · 18/05/2010 12:41

the way you lived

I must have slept through the 90's, did anything happen?
didn't really wake up untill ds discoverd music

daftpunk · 18/05/2010 12:41

I don't consider anyone "old" until they're past about 65... I doubt you're that old...and even if you were...who cares..? lol

My dh meets quite a few famous people through his work, he met Joan Collins a few months ago...he said she was really lovely and still very (sexually) charismatic...I told him she's about 80..! he just winked at me and walked away...the sicko..

Not that I was that suprized....he still has sexual fantasies about Miss Jones from Rising Damp...

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 12:57

Yo!

daftpunk · 18/05/2010 12:59

Agree the 80's wasn't really naff...

pretty decent actually,...(didn't like U2, the Police or Dire straits)

Loved Tears for fears, A Flock of seagulls...oh god...who sang Alive & kicking..?

Loved the specials and all that stuff...(more late 70's maybe..?)

Elvis Costello is still played to death on my ipod....but he came from the 70's.

BigGitDad · 18/05/2010 14:42

Simple Minds

daftpunk · 18/05/2010 15:50

how could I forget simple minds, Waterfront is a fab song.
