they are really marvellous. Really. A proper talented band with proper instruments (lots of them) and great songs. I went with DS1 (17) and my sister and it was really lovely.

Well OK then, you've all gone to bed. But I was there, in Kilburn High Road, tapping my silver Converse clad foot to this lovely beat.

Glad you enjoyed your concert.

What sort of music do they play?

I only wanted to ask that once.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 18:24

you can listen to a sample of their debut single from this link

Folk. Hmm not really my thing, but I could imagine listening to them during a nice hot summers day at a music festival, while sipping on a drink.
I wouldn't buy their albums though.

Are they a new band?

Thunderduck · 11/07/2009 19:46

Ignore me. You did say debut single. I'm having another brunette moment.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:13

It's not really folk but folk inspired. Lots of musical instruments, trumpet, banjo, fiddle, acoustic guitar.

LOL at brunette moment.

AllFallDown - Oh thanks for the link to that. I'm glad they are that Guardian writer's new favourite band too.

AllFallDown · 14/07/2009 10:17

Been quite a bit of press about them. They're lovely, aren't they? Here's the video for the single

Bexybear · 20/09/2009 11:00

embarrasing admission but if i wasnt about to hit 39 and they were avalble in WHSmiths I would have massive posters of Stornoway all over my bedroom wall (and probably a pencil case!)

The bass player phworrrrr...and their music is quite good too!

this is a link to my current favourite stornoway song -a vid of a session they did for BBC Oxford

Oh, I love these! I listened to Zorbing about five times in a row one day because it's so fantastic. Do they have a CD out? You can get their stuff on iTunes but it doesn't like me and won't let me pay for anything.

Bexybear · 20/09/2009 11:25

totally addictive...I couldnt stop listening to Zorbing now cant stop listening to fuel up (see previous link)

but sadly (and criminally) unsigned so very hard to get hold of stuff... I just content myself with timewasting sessions on Utube watching various poor quality videos of them live!

AllFallDown · 20/09/2009 12:22

Here's a nice piece about them from Friday's Guardian.

OldWisteria · 02/10/2009 20:59

I saw them a year and a half ago at Wychwood and bought all 3 EPs that they have out, I'm so glad that they have made it to the populace at last!!

mwff · 02/10/2009 21:41

they remind me of a poppier decemberists (who rather lost me with their last concept album tbh). not altogether a bad thing, although the decemberists at their best have it pretty much covered for me when it comes to "folk-inspired".

mwff · 02/10/2009 21:44

heh. it turns out they're playing a festival i already have tickets to, might check them out live

Tizzyjacko · 19/11/2009 19:29

Did you see them on Later with Jools Holland? Lovely. I'm torn between wanting them to release an album and wanting to keep them as my secret passion.....
