sat with dd (8) this afternoon and showed her MJ videos on youtube - i'm not the hugest fan but then I realised that his music has been part of my whole life - from us as teenagers listening to the Bad album (on a dodgy cassette) to the older stuff being played at cheesy parties!
will be listening to those songs for the rest of my life - what an amazing artist he was!

Love Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal but without MJ it would never have been. RIP Michael. Hopefully you'll get the peace in the afterlife you never attained during your time here.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/06/2009 20:41

listened to this over and over in my younger days

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 26/06/2009 20:52

I was a big fan at his peak - not so sure later on. I remember watching thriller over and over again as a kid and squirming at the zombies arms falling off. He was a genius artist there is no denying it. Anyway tonight our local station did a one hr tribute and this was played first as i was driving - it proper got me choked here

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/06/2009 20:58

and I forgot about this video

the tv here (germany) is playing a concert from 1992 - i've just been dancing round the house like a loon - think MJ would have approved!! my thriller dance was specially for him!!

BakewellTarts · 27/06/2009 11:27

You know I'd forgotten how many MJ songs I liked until I heard them again today...obviously too embarrassed to admit I like him as a grown up. His music was the soundtrack to my teenage years and so is very evocative of happy and sad times. RIP MJ and thankyou for the music.

pickyvic · 27/06/2009 16:29

this is a nice idea. ive kept off the other threads but his music was brilliant in his heyday, RIP.

Loved man in the mirror, he was an amazing talent, his music was outstanding and as a showman he was first class.

Hope he is at peace now after what amounts to a very sad life.

whoingodsnameami · 27/06/2009 16:46

I was never really a fan as such, but like a lot of his music, the way you make me feel, probably my fave. Have you seen it her where he performs it with Britney Spears.

I was watching mtv in bed last night and remembered how slick the Smooth Criminal Video is. The choreography is absolutely genuis and so slick.

Was listening to History CD today. His vocals on "You are not alone" are just simply breathtaking. The way that his voice soars towards the end and how he holds the note on "heart" when he sings "you are always in my heart" just tugs at my heart strings. It has always moved me and today it moved me to tears.

His version of Smile moved me to tears too because you can feel the intensity of the emotion that he puts into it. His sadness, loneliness and isolation resonate strongly through his vocals.

"Earth Song" is a classic, "Stranger in Moscow" is haunting and mesmerising and "They don't care about us" is him sticking two fingers up to his detractors - brilliant and poignantly sad at the same time. Part of it goes:

Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kick me
Don't you black or white me

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Tell me what has become of my life
I have a wife and two children who love me
I am the victim of police brutality, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of hate
You're rapin' me of my pride
Oh, for God's sake
I look to heaven to fulfill it's prophecy...
Set me free

MJ's legacy will endure forever through his music as will the joy that he has given to millions and the millions to come. That is something the haters can never take away from him and they will never, ever achieve one millionth of what he achieved in his life.

RIP Michael. You are free now.
