Chose your stage gear in plenty of time, so no last minute panic about 'what shall I wear'

Make sure you know the songs they want you to sing at audition

Be yourself

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Are you nervous only in auditions, and OK in front of an audience - or does it all scare you? Are you noticeably nervous?

Is it a lead singer position? Is there a male singer too?

HeyHeyIWannaBeARockStar · 07/09/2008 18:08

Hi earlybird I am initially a little nervous in front of an audience but usually once I start I love it but if it is an audution or some kind of competition I am much more nervous. I think I am scared of failure iykwim? Think I might come across as nervous which is a worry. It is a lead singer position and I know I could do it but want to show them that I can.

Do you know what music they usually serve up and what the band's influences are?

What song are you going to sing?

Earlybird · 07/09/2008 18:18

Carnival makes a good point. Do you know what song you'll perform? More than one song? Have you rehearsed?

Lots of people have good voices, but being able to deliver under pressure/on the spot is one thing they'll look for.

Also, some people don't have technically wonderful voices, but have bags of charisma so succeed based on that (think Madonna).

Do you have any recordings of your voice you can give them if you don't perform your best due to nerves?

HeyHeyIWannaBeARockStar · 07/09/2008 18:56

Carnival - they play popular classics from the 60's to current day and on the phone gave me a list of a few songs that they play including Son of a Preacher Man, Piece of my Heart and Valerie all of which I know pretty well so I was thinking to practise those and have a couple of extras under my belt just in case they want to hear more.

Earlybird - I do have a recording from a few years ago which would do the job if I mess up. Don't know how much charisma I have really think I will need to wait and find out!

well done! owuld do love to be in a band but can't sing

sing a song that you really love and are confident singin - maybe send your recording beforehand as well if you are really nervous?

HeyHeyIWannaBeARockStar · 07/09/2008 19:05

Thank you I was quite pleased when he gave me a list of songs because there were a few on there that I feel I can sing fairly well.

Good songs. I hope you do really well, I'll keep my fingers crossed - let us know how you get on. Be yourself and try your best to enjoy it.

Oh I will thanks Will undoubtedly be starting a style thread soon

Make eye contact with your audience. Don't be one of those singers who keep eyes closed.

Now, a practical question - if you get the job, will childcare be an issue? Obviously bands play at night...and how much travel will be be asked to do?
