The Lemonheads.........poor Evan Dando hasn't stood the test of time

I saw The Lemonheads at a small festival last weekend............i have loved and adored Evan Dando from afar for many years now.
This gig however was a shambles and the man is a shadow of his former self. In fact he was doing a pretty good impression of a teenager going through the motions of doing something they really don't want to do. He didn't move, other than to walk off stage (which he did twice during the set).

I feel quite sad for him, he is obviously struggling in some capacity....whether he's ill or back on the drugs i don't know......

on the upside Frank Turner and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly were absolutely fab!!

poor bloke, he was lovely

hellish · 23/07/2008 14:37

oh no queenrollo, I have loved ED for years too, bad news that he's not on good form.

Shh but there's someone on MN who has had a thing with him.

serenity · 23/07/2008 14:37

Oh dear, I'm going to see them play a festival on Sunday (not headlining luckily, the awesome Ash are doing that) and that sounds pretty sad. He's had some rough times with drugs hasn't he? I thought he'd got past that now

Botbot · 23/07/2008 14:37

How sad - he was such a GOD at one point.

Very minor claim to fame: I sat at the next table to him backstage at Reading one year. Was overcome with excitement. He was SO gorgeous.

(didn't talk to him, obviously).

we were supposed to see them at a very small warm up gig in Oxford the night before and got to the pub to find a notice on the door saying it had been cancelled because Evan had missed his plane.......which in view of his performance on the Saturday was probably code for 'he was too wrecked to get on the plane'
(and we'd travelled 150 miles too, so not best pleased with that!)

ahhhhh Evan in the early 90's..........dreamy

i'd say the first 30 mins were ok......they were supposed to be performing the whole of It's A Shame About Ray but didn't....he was throwing in whatever he felt like. They opened with Confetti which is my second favourite song.....and it was good and bouncy. After half an hour he went off stage and the band followed, they came back on he managed to make Being Around sound like a funeral dirge........they did a couple of songs, went off then came back on again. He stumbled his way through Frank Mills.......and he did Different Drum, which he started as if he still loved it, but after the first verse seemed to get bored with it.

Maybe i was unlucky, maybe he really is just poorly and was struggling.

Let us know how they are Serenity......i hope it was a one off........

he was lovely back then (as was I)

geekgirl · 23/07/2008 14:52

oo, I went to school with someone who had snogged ED

Must have been 1993...

I guess he got around!

Ledodgy · 23/07/2008 14:53

I would

scootermum · 23/07/2008 14:53

I saw Ash at z008 and they were very very good.
Shame about Evan Dando..though I always preferred Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam anyway.

ladyhelen2 · 23/07/2008 14:55

Queenrollo, were you at Splendour? I saw them too. V disappointed. Although Rufus Wainwright was FAB! Even DS age3 loved him.

queenrollo · 23/07/2008 14:55

cod.........he doesn't look like any maths teacher i ever met. If your maths teacher looked like Evan then i am jealous........but not as jealous as i am of Oliveoil

OliveOil, and I thought I was impressive for sitting vaguely near him!

Oliveoil · 23/07/2008 14:59

oh, and may I stress the work snog, nothing else occured

just in case you think I am some sort of groupie sort

ladyhelen2 · 23/07/2008 15:00

Not great at all. No interaction at all with the audience. They just looked like they couldn't be bothered. Evan Dando barely moved through the whole set.

Guadalupe · 23/07/2008 15:05

God I loved him

DD got some sweets called lemonheads in a party bag and I was humming 'shame about ray' all day.

Ledodgy · 23/07/2008 15:06
