Music off the Interweb - please help a hopeless old fart.

I want to download some music. I am running Windows Vista, what sites do I want to go and log into?

Ok. Well I actually have managed to go to Tesco (I know, boo hiss) and download some songs. ANd burn them onto a CD. Which will not play in my CD player. What have I done wrong? I wanted to put the tracks on a CD cos I am djing on Saturday...

I don't know but I think I was smart enough not to choose Ipod-Only. And the CD will play when put back into the PC. But will not play on anything that plays regular music CDs (says the CD is unreadable when I pop it into my Mac - which plays ordinary shop-bought music CDs).

Either the Tesco download manager or Windows Media.
If I have cocked it up will I have to buy the tracks all over again?
