A couple of bands I’m listening to that have the same raw energy are Fontaines DC & Squid. I also like Shame & Yard Act. I will think of more, but would like to hear others’ favourites.

Hiya @cheapskatemum I like Fontaines, just tried to get tix for them but £123 for stadium so not bothering. I’ve not heard of the others so will listen and will also come back to say who I listen to currently. My minds gone blank as just arrived at hospital for emergency clinic for what I suspect is a misbehaving gallbladder.

Its a bit sad really but in order to avoid endless chatter and earworms! I just listen to Radio 3 these days. I just find it more relaxing than listening to radio stations playing contemporary pop music where you have to listen to a load of rubbish to hear the odd song you really might like.

Having said all that the last piece of contemporary music that I really enjoyed and rated was Charli XCXs Brat album from a couple of years ago. Great stuff!

@CrowsInMyGardenso sorry to hear that! Must be so painful & I gather you have to eat v low fat food. I hope you feel better soon.

Amyl and the Sniffers

@Munchie1965thanks for your response. I had a similar reaction 2006-08, when I moved house. I assumed I could listen to the DAB stations I’d been listening to in London, but no reception for them in rural E Anglia 😩. I listened to Classic FM instead. Since then I’ve found BBC 6Music, which is probably where I first heard the bands I mentioned above. I occasionally listen to Boom Radio, or Pick of the Pops on Radio 2.

Love Pet Needs they've got a few albums out now, put on a fantastic live show (that won't break the bank), and are actually touring the UK this autumn. I would recommend going along to see them if you can!

Panic Shack have a punk vibe

@cheapskatemum Pfft doc says it isn't my gallbladder and was not interested in what it was that is causing pain. NHS are falling apart and I say that as a NHS worker. Anyways, I have just realised that I don't listen to any new stuff. I saw Yungblud in April and he was amazing, so much energy! I do like The Darkness and have tix to go see them in December. After punk I was into Nirvana, QOTSA, White Stripes but although I listen to music all the time apart from Fontaines none of it is new. I need some inspiration. I love watching Amyl & The Sniffers, she's another one with loads of energy, but wouldn't necessarily listen to them. Like a bit of Nick Cave or Lana Del Ray while I am cooking so I can sing along. Be interesting to hear what other people are into.

Did you ever see Adam & The Ants in their early years - way before the silly white stripe across the nose?. They were my favourite band to go and see, then he went all pop and ruined it. My friend used to work at the BBC and we could go to see Top of the Pops being recorded. We bumped into Mr. Ant in the corridor - us all punky and him with feathers dangling from him and he opened his arms and said "I've still got it, eh girls?" We just rolled our eyes and walked off. We did forgive him and travelled to Liverpool to see him about 5 years ago. He was sick and gig was cancelled. We booked again to see him in Liverpool about 2 years ago and he got sick and canceled so that's his lot now. I guess he is getting on though.

Loved Bauhaus and The Banshees too. Ahh it was a good time to be young.

Over the years I've got more into "folk/punk" so Dropkick Murphys, the Mary Wallopers, Sweetchunks band, Skinny Lister, etc. and of course still listen to all the old stuff.
Other bands Amyl and the Sniffers, Kneecap, Chasing Abbey and there's a young band from Leeds called Indignation Meeting.
If you want to listen to a good mix of the old, the new and the esoteric I can recommend "the Late Show With Mickey Bradley"( The Undertones bass player) which is broadcast on Radio Ulster but available on BBC Sounds anywhere.
