TBH I was disappointed with Taylor Swift's Showgirl album although there are a couple of great tracks - I still think lyrically it lacked the craft of some of her best work and melodically it was all too familiar. I consoled myself with the thought that - at least Phoebe Bridgers has a new album in the pipeline - her first 2 albums are great (2018 Stranger In The Alps and 2020 Punisher) - I think most Swifties will love them. Sadly, IMHO, the Lost Weekend is more of a wet weekend - mainly because of the mixing and production - it's drenched in reverb and no end of effects added to every vocal and instrument - the stereo field is a blur from left to right - it's nice to be able to pick out drums and bass in one part of the stereo field and vocals and guitar in other places - but this is just a swirling confusion of sound. I also can't rate or appreciate the songs if I can't mentally strip them down to something basic like one guitar or one piano and visualise (audio-ise?) the chords and changes - it's a struggle to even pick out the melodies TBH - listening is like swimming through treacle. She's a great songwriter - a shame you can't hear the words that easily - like everything else - they are buried up to their necks in the mix. So... very disappointing imho.
