I am increasingly cross with British Muslims that they don’t do more to protest against the abuse of women in Iran. There is no religious, Qur’anic requirement to wear the hijab. Just a requirement for all Muslims, male and female to dress modestly. There is a Qur’anic requirement to protect the planet. Yet, over and over again Muslim women place the desire to be seen as part of the head covering women and which stops most Muslim women from cycling , above a Qur’anic instruction. It is performative Islam. They don’t do more not care about women suffering in Iran. I watched a man leading his Burkha covered wife along. She had her face covered too. This is not Islam. Mohammed was all about the emancipation of women. I am ashamed of women who pretend to be devout and yet do nothing for the abuse of women in Iran. Abuse of women in Iran is NOT true Islam.

But I'm doubtful about how much Iran would care about protests from a western country.

I care about the constant misinterpretation of Islam by the Muslims who don't care about the message of the Qur'an but do care about fitting in with the bully boys calling themselves Muslims.One of Mohammed's goals with Islam was to improve the dire lot of women in 6th century Arabia. He made it possible for women to work, to own property, to refuse marriage. His boss was a woman (reader, he married her).
Mohammed, who was flawed, but did so much to improve life for women would be horrified at all this burkha nonsense.
I find distasteful the focus on women as sex objects, hence all the covering up. Yet most Muslims have turned their backs on the planet. Muslims are told to be Khalifahs, caretakers of the planet. However the numbers of Muslim women using bikes in the UK is exceptionally low. Sadly, so many Muslims are all about the performative aspect of what they wear, Far fewer are interested in what they do.
