Wishbone Ash.
I was about 14 and went on my own....... terrific.😁👍

Wow. They were my first gig too and I was also 14. This was in Bristol in 1971. You definitely trump me for going on your own though!

TragicMuse · 04/10/2025 16:31

The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park, 1969.

My mum took me. I was 4.

Yes, I remember it.

Bay City Rollers 1975

Me too! Bristol Colston Hall as it was then. The screaming was intense.

CrowsInMyGarden · 04/10/2025 17:00

@Stumbleine My friends and I went to see The Darkness earlier this year, Ash were supporting and we had forgotten how good they were. Have seen them a few times since, was supposed to be seeing them a few weeks ago in London but tube strike meant I couldn’t get there. Have you seen them since your first gig?

PatsFruitCake · 04/10/2025 17:01

Wham! at Liverpool Royal Court in 1983. I went with my mate and was13. I wrote "I love you George" on the tour bus in lipstick before being hauled away by security.

Second gig was Thompson Twins shortly after at the same venue. When I got together with DH, 13 years later, I discovered he'd also been at that one.

Town Hall doesn't seem to have any gigs these days. Did go to see Ross noble in
Pandemic times

Saw a lot of bands there in the mid 90s, Suede, Pulp. Quite a few others.

Gingercatlover · 04/10/2025 17:03

Robbie - Leeds

CrowsInMyGarden · 04/10/2025 17:03

Mine was Slaughter and The Dogs at The Marquee, 1978 (that’s the story I’m sticking too to keep my punk youth alive but really it was Tavares at maybe the Lyceum just a year before 🙄)

whatdoidonowffs · 04/10/2025 17:06

transvision Vamp at the Cornwall coliseum the day I passed my driving test

Holy crap what a first gig, has anything topped it?

The Beatles. Mid 60’s. 😎

idontwanttomissathing · 04/10/2025 17:09

Simply Red Hammersmith Appolo 1985. We were 14. Mum wrote a note to school so I could leave early! Few months later, Alexander O’Neal and Cherrelle in Croydon. My friend and I bought tee shirts and wore them to school the next day as it was sports day. We got sent home for not wearing our team colours. Tee shirt was orange, my team was green, friend’s was red. Result!

kajagoogoo in 1983 and I think it was at The Royal Court theatre in Liverpool.

Mumdiva99 · 04/10/2025 17:18

Fat and Frantic about 1990ish....Last night my wife hoovered her head.
All my friends knew them from Greenbelt so I tagged along. I loved it! Went on to spend many many hours and nights out at that venue.

spiderlight · 04/10/2025 17:21

Very randomly, Uriah Heep, when I was 16. I'd never heard of them but by then-boyfriend's dad basically made us go. I think the first gig I went to by choice was Europe in the NEC.

1967 at the former Colston Hall, Bristol (waves to @MrsMoastyToasty ).
Walker Brothers headlining, with Cat Stevens and The Jimi Hendrix Experience as supporting acts.
Went in as a Walker Brothers fan, came out devoted to Jimi Hendrix. Mind blown!

Oof must have been an amazing experience

My mam went to see the Beatles at the cavern club, odd because I never really heard her talk about music

Age 11 - Blur at SECC my big brother bought me their latest album and when I opened it two tickets fell out and I cried 🤣 best big brother ever ❤️

Amazing! I found the program for that gig at my mums not that long ago.

It was a brilliant gig.

I went with a boy that I dumped on the bus home who was horrible.

Growlybear83 · 04/10/2025 17:41

Mine was UFO at Orpington Civic Hall in 1972.

Yesreallyitsme · 04/10/2025 17:44

Carter USM at Brixton Academy in about 1991. Unless seeing Rolf Harris at Butlins in the 80s counts.

DuckyLuck · 04/10/2025 17:47

The Smiths, Reading Hexagon, 1984

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 04/10/2025 17:49

Thin Lizzy at The Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park in May 1980. I was 16 and had just left school, having done my O levels. I'd been a massive fan of theirs since buying their Black Rose album in May the previous year. It was me and my best mate.,I'd switched her on to them. The following year in November,we went to see them 3 nights running at Hammersmith Odeon.

LoveItaly · 04/10/2025 18:01

Duran Duran 1982 Hammersmith Odeon, the highlight of my life up to that point.
