I'm interested in hearing new alternative bands. The last band I got into was Amyl and the Sniffers. I love The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, P J Harvey, Buzzcocks, Nirvana, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, MGMT, Iggy Pop, Deftones, Tool and am looking for new things to listen to.

The Lovely Eggs. An absolute joy to watch live, with a brilliant and admirable approach to remaining diy.
They also actively encourage female stage divers (of all ages!)

Not sure if you listened to them back in the day, but Shed Seven have had a comeback in the last year. They released a new album last year, A matter of time, which went to number one. It’s a genuinely brilliant album. I don’t skip any of the songs! Then they released Liquid gold, a compilation of their greatest hits reimagined (full orchestra, different arrangements). I’m seeing them live on Friday in Leeds, can’t wait!
I see Slow Readers Club mentioned above. They supported Shed Seven in 2023. I was underwhelmed. The Sherlocks are supporting Shed Seven again this year, they were pretty good.

The Lovely Eggs! Iggy likes them and "sang" with them so that's your recommendation.

@UpHillVerySlowly
have you seen them? I’ve taken friends who don’t even particularly like their music and they’ve loved them live.
They make a huge racket for 2 people and it’s sweet/amusing that they’re married!

Also Wolf Alice
Bug Club
LCD sound system (not newish though)

Might be worth checking out some of the lineups to the Indie Festivals - Green Man have released their 2025 lineup today and it is excellent, and End of the Road another reliably very good one.

I like a lot of the bands mentioned here, immediately following for new suggestions!

OP, maybe try:
NewDad
Damn Dirty Apes
Warpaint
The Veils
Archive
TV On The Radio

Venturing into moody American alt-folk…
Other Lives
Wovenhand

As you might be able to tell, I found PN via Frank 😂 they are epic live, must have seen them around a dozen times now.

I found them via the Lottery Winners so kind of Frank linked for me too.

ill also add Tom A Smith, The Reytons and Red Rum Club

@towhoknowswhereI've seen them many times! Absolutely amazing live act and so funny too. Holly is a force of nature and I love David with his Party Gong! Tickets booked for October!

The Mercians, why they are not better known I don't know

Aldi Skinny Lister though probably wouldn't call indie

LlynTegid · 23/08/2025 19:42

There are some excellent bands in these shores who sing not in English, but in Cymraeg (Welsh) to recommend.

Tew Tew Tennau
Fleur de Lys.

Bernadinetta · 23/08/2025 19:44

Little Comets

NegroniMacaroni · 23/08/2025 19:48

Recently went to see Smashing Pumpkins - they were amazing! No idea how they've passed me by this whole time. I then went down a reddit rabbit hole looking for other great bands and came across Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs - soooo good. They're coming to the UK in Oct.

Grew up listening to Skunk Anansie, Garbage, and The Prodigy. (I was an angry teen)

Forgot Pet Needs, they are excellent live.

Pet Needs are great, they performed at my daughter’s wedding and were fab.

No way?! That's amazing, they've become friends over the last couple of years.
