Probably not classed as ska but can we appreciate the tune that is Uptown top ranking by Althea and Donna?

Top choice!

Toots and the Maytals were the best live band I ever saw, gutted Toots died from Covid the year I was supposed to see them again. Can't pick a favourite of theirs or Specials etc

Goldfinger, Superman
Popes of Chillitown, Wisdom Teeth
Have the time, Slackers
Bull in a china shop, Faintest idea
Capdown, Ska Wars
Los Fastidios, Clandestino

Oh this thread is making me very happy! And that's my weekend sorted, going to listen to anything I haven't heard before 😅

Loads of my faves have been mentioned already, particularly by Toots and the Maytals, the Specials, Bad Manners, the Slackers and lots of random stuff like Girly Girly, It Mek and Uptown Top Ranking.

Currently very into the Interrupters - would highly recommend to anyone into their ska (and so good live!)

Lip up fatty!

Does anyone like Lovers Rock too? I love Carroll Thompson in particular.

Redebs · 03/03/2023 14:30

Oooooooooo I love Ska!

HippyChickMama · 03/03/2023 14:31

I'm not sure if these count but they definitely have a ska vibe

My favourite song from childhood. Although I'm informed by DH that it is mod, not ska.

Coincidentally, I just saw today that our local cinema is showing this in a couple of weeks

Rancid is punk but definitely ska vibes in a lot of their stuff. One of my favourite bands ever 😍

Mighty Mighty Bosstones is definitely ska!

Saw Bad Manners live for the first time this Boxing Day just gone and they were ace!

UnctuousUnicorns · 03/03/2023 18:54

Bad Manners went down a storm at Stone Valley. Everyone yelling "You Fat Bastard" at BB over and over. 😂

You’re Wondering Now by Andy and Joey. Love that loads of people know it now, even if they don’t realise they know it now 😉

Yes!!! ❤️

moggerhanger · 03/03/2023 23:46

Special Brew, or Enjoy Yourself.

moggerhanger · 03/03/2023 23:49

Ooh, and rather randomly, an album track by The Offspring called Don't Pick It Up. open.spotify.com/track/3k4ZgTcELlkzkcyow9fmx9?si=0nNwbRygSt-xLd4d_4g_5g

Findyourneutralspace · 03/03/2023 23:50

I’d put Ramcid in the same bracket as Spunge. To get geeky, it’s third wave ska, but whatever….

I love it all…

WetBandits · 03/03/2023 23:52

Lip Up Fatty. Reminds me of my best friend’s wedding, having a drunken dance battle with my new best friend in law (the groom Grin)

WhiskersPete · 03/03/2023 23:59

Rancid - Time Bomb

WhiskersPete · 04/03/2023 00:01

Also Reel Big Fish - Sell Out

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 04/03/2023 00:02

I don't have a big knowledge of ska but have always loved Madness and The Specials. I bought The Beat song Can't get used to losing you when I was about 11.
Remember watching Buster Bloodvessel jumping about on TOTP!
Love Enjoy yourself, Jools Holland plays it at all his concerts.
DH has a lot more knowledge about ska, he's into The Interrupters just now and another band who are similar to Madness that I can't remember the name of.

TicketyBoo11 · 04/03/2023 00:15

The Baba Brooks Band - Teenage Ska
Toots - Sit Right Down / Funky Kingston
Mento Buru - Goo Goo Muck
Sister Nancy - Bam Bam

..no list complete without Too Much Too Young. There’s my school days right there..😊
