Which brass instrument for an adult beginner?

Our local brass band is starting a training band, and I've decided to join. But I'm unsure what instrument I actually want to start with - most of my dithering is between cornet and tenor horn.
Does anyone have advice please about what they would recommend for a (small) adult beginner? Or how best to decide?

Try trumpet. I played for years from age 11 and I loved it.

I played cornet. It's easier than a trumpet as it's smaller ☺️

Brass bands don’t have trumpets! I’m sure the band will be happy for you to have a go on lots of different instruments and see if you feel a particular affinity to one. It is relatively easy to move from one valved instrument to another, so don’t worry if you want to switch at a later stage. Just make sure whatever you choose fits in your car! Good luck, it’s a fantastic hobby.

Corners harder on the mouth, I'd start on horn though more air usually needed. Great work out so well done you!

Honestly makes no difference especially as a beginner and once you can play one you can play the other. Try both and see which feels more comfortable as the hold is very different. At a more advanced level the cornet has more scope for solo work (with brass band repertoire) so that might be a factor but that's really a concern later on by which time you will know what's right for you anyway. Good luck. Some of my happiest memories are in bandrooms!

I’d go for a euphonium , I played the tuba in the school band

Thank you so much for the advice everyone. I'm going to go along to the first meeting with an open mind and see what feels most comfortable. Nothing massive though as my house is tiny!

I started playing cornet as a child and remember at some point switched to tenor horn as I found the mouth positioning much easier/more comfortable for me

I took up trombone as an adult with a training band! I wouldn't recommend it though because the parts can be quite dull 🤣 Euphoniums are absolutely gorgeous though. Hmmm might get one myself.
