Pop rock/alternative rock for 6 year olds

All in the title - DS is a rocker in the making, loves all rock music but gravitating towards pop rock such as Fall out boy.

I’m finding I have to screen a lot of the songs and videos for inappropriate images and lyrics (talk about death and what not!)

Suggestions of bands for this age please?

I like a lot of punk and have had similar issues with finding tracks with suitable language/content. I have been caught out so many times with songs that from memory were fine, only to find myself sprinting across the kitchen because I've just realised the singer is about to drop a loud and well-enunciated swear word 🙈 I have had to individually re-listen to tracks and add to a playlist if OK mostly, but have also taken to embracing punk in other languages. They are still swearing, and the content is not appropriate if translated, but DCs are oblivious so it's all good!

Avril Lavigne
Paramore
boys like girls
we three kings
All American rejects
simple plan

I can’t guarantee no swearing but Spotify has a ‘clean’ setting you could try

Moby

The Killers have quite a back catalogue and no swearing afaik.

There's a band called Harry and the Potters whose songs are all Harry Potter-related. Their first album was "Voldemort Can't Stop The Rock" and they occasionally tour as well which is great for littles.

There's also a band called Okilly Dokilly that's death metal but it's all Simpsons quotes. The music videos can be a bit dark though so I'd avoid those, but listening to the songs is fine. It depends how "rock" you want your music to be.

The Killers and Paramore are good suggestions. Also a lot of Queens of the Stone Age, I was quite surprised how much of their stuff is fine for dc listening.

My 8 year old dd quoted, 'Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money' the other day. That was from listening to the radio too! I preferred it when they were really small and we could stick whatever we wanted on in the car!

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/01/2023 10:36

Old school. Most 60s/70s originals are inoffensive.

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 23/01/2023 10:49

Yes, Led Zeppelin would be a great to listen to.

chachachachachanges · 06/02/2023 10:31

Imagine Dragons
Fall Out Boy
In addition to everything above!

One day they will hear Nirvana and never go back

CrispyTofu · 06/02/2023 10:43

Fall Out Boy sing the theme tune and all the songs for Spidey and his Amazing Friends. They have an album and it's aimed at 4/5/6 year olds :-).

Would you get away with Andy and the Band still?

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 06/02/2023 10:46

we just have radio x and planet rock on all the time and have picked up bands they like from that.

some of these might be a bit soft.
Wombats are brilliant, scouting for girls, blossoms, arctic monkeys early stuff.

mine are the same. I cannot tell you how great it is reliving my youth through them, they are now at concert age it’s just great. They share their music with me, and there’s some great new indie bands out there, I seem to be emptying my purse every weekend at the record shop on vinyl. Brit pop is definitely back. I can’t make many suggestions as mine are old enough for the lyrics to not be an issue. If it gives you any heart, they don’t sing the swearing, even with friends and not me.

one of our greatest finds was the president of United States (millions of peaches) and the youtube channel of one of the members, Casper baby pants.

running joke in our house is “can’t wait to see nirvana on tour” after dd saw it as a comment once.

embrace it and enjoy
