I am a learner adult but getting better. I bought a good instrument -a
Pearl with solid silver headjoint. The flute is being serviced currently and as there is only one person who maintains flutes in the city I live (not uk) can take 4 to 6 weeks. I am meant to be studying for exam and am thinking of getting a second . I thought a different brand - there is a 400 series 2nd hand Yamaha for sale. There is also as 2nd hand Pearl Elegantee for same about the same price as Yamaha. Would you choose one of them or a cheaper surge that flute?

A Yamaha 211 took me to grade 8 with no problems. (I think that's often regarded as a 'standard' student flute.) I imagine a 400 model would be a fine second instrument. Something cheaper would probably be fine to tide you over though. But if a better instrument is within your budget then why not?

Thankyou - I bought a student model Yamaha 212 today - sounds great!
