I've been listening to Wieniawski's Légende played by different violinists recently. I find it fascinating to see how each musician added their own personality and interpretation, which resulted in some of them sound distinctively different.
I am also trying to find the one closest to my heart as well as the one closest to Wieniawski himself (he performed the premiere).
I like Menuhin''s romanticism, Oistrakh's perfection and Perlman's brilliance. Kogan and Vengerov are also nice but perhaps the former a tiny bit too slow and the latter a weeny bit too dramatic to my taste. I didn't like David Garrett's version at all so wouldn't listen to it again...
I have a few more violinists to listen to on my list. Any suggestion or opinion would be greatly welcome!
