Piano basics for an adult

I'm looking for something to recommend to a friend of mine who has self-taught from little musical experience. Zero manuscript awareness but an amazing musical ear.

I've suggested the basics as a way of bridging the gap in his knowledge (finger positions, chords etc, major and minor differences etc) but don't know how to advise him further.

What would help? I have my DD's beginner books but he seems already passed that stage and I don't want to appear that I'm patronising him. He's self-taught entirely on you tube and is playing some Elton John songs, some recent hits too (albeit on a simpler level but sounds lovely). I notice he doesn't understand chord melodies and I thought he'd pick up songs quicker if he had some basic knowledge.

If you're a piano teacher, what would you advise? Thanks!

I have just bought a course from Udemy called piano for all. It is £10.99. Starts you off playing by ear then brings in the reading music. I can't review it properly as I only bought it this evening but I thought it was worth a shot at that price. You get videos and downloadable whatnot. Only at this price till the 11th Jan.

If you google udemy.com and look for piano courses you should find it. The sale ends tomorrow!
