New Rosin on New Violin Bow

I'm hoping someone may be able to help. I have had a few violin lessons, and so today have invested in a new student violin so I can practice at home.
I cannot for the life of me get enough rosin on the bow to get a sound. The rosin is new as well.
I will be grateful if anyone has any advice, as I don't really want to wait another week before my next lesson.

Have you tried rubbing the roisin with something else first? Just so its not as smooth? (sorry not played in years so don't know if you're not meant to do this anymore haha).

Try scratching the rosin with a penny, if it's new, it'll be too smooth to actually stick to the bow.

You want the rosin to turn white at the edges, OP, before you rub it (thoroughly and hard) against the bow. Scratching it with a penny is a good suggestion.

I did use an emery board on the rosin first as I wasn't getting anywhere with it being shiny. Online advice on YouTube said to do this. I still can't seem to get it on though. All afternoon I've been trying to do this

Also, after the first time of using the rosin, you don't need to use anywhere near as much on the second time you use it. It might be a bit slippery but as you use the rosin, a groove will form

Maybe I will try with the penny and see if that makes a difference

Well, using the penny and rubbing vigorously is making some improvement! I shall persevere with this method and hopefully be up and running by tomorrow.

I am now getting a tune out of the violin
It sounds a bit screechy in the E but I'm guessing that's because it's all new stuff, and the one at the teachers has been well used.
