Is it about lesbianism? I've just had a eureka moment, but can't find a definitive answer on google so can I conduct a poll here?

I just thought it was about being empowered to wear what you want and do what you like despite the handicap Hmm of being female

I've just re-read, maybe it's about being a lesbian? Not sure

Seeyounearertime · 01/01/2016 23:25

I thought it was about Shanias enjoying woman hood and having fun with it?
I'd imagine being Shania Twain is quite fun tbh. How 'empowering' it is to the average woman doing a 9 hour shift at work before going home to sort kids and dinner, I don't know? Probably not much.

I always thought it was about being empowered, not needing a man etc, but then last night I actually listened to the lyrics properly!

There's a bit on this Wikipedia page (Lyrics & composition part) where she explains it as a celebration of being a woman. "We're kind of spoiled in a lot of ways... Feminists may not feel that way but I do... Girl power and gay power."

Meh.

Never got anything suggesting Lesbiamsm from this particular song, mainly just female empowerment. However, the great thing about music is that it's open to interpretation!

Man's shirts, short skirts. It means to me she can wear and do what she likes.

Shinyshoes2 · 08/01/2016 11:11

It's a crap song

alwaystimeforcoffee · 05/02/2016 10:09

Yeah I've always interpreted as more of an empowering song- bit of a feminist anthem really! :)
