My DS and I were talking recently about our shared love of music. He said he reckons that Shane McGowan of the Pogues has written more great London songs than anyone else..misty morning albert bridge. .rainy night in soho..lullaby of London..white city..ironic given he says how much he hates the place! Others that spring to mind waterloo sunset londons burning streets of London. Sure there are many others..lets hear them

Where to start? A big YY to London Pride and London Calling. Also coming to mind are:

Old Father Thames - no idea who wrote that
Pop Goes the Weasel (second verse - Up and down the City Road, in and out the Eagle, that's the way the money goes, pop...)
Meet Me in Battersea Park - Petula Clark
Up the Junction - Squeeze
Marble Arch - Clifford T Ward
Back Street International - Richard Digance
Mr & Mrs Joseph Green - also Richard Digance

Not really strictly about London specifically , but I'd like to add 'Upon Westminster Bridge' by Half Man Half Biscuit.

Oh, what a gorgeous video, Gasp. I've loved London Pride since it was the theme music for a TV show that I can't remember now (probably mid-70s). It made me sad, though, about those parts of London that have effectively become night storage for money - huge fancy blocks built for off-shore investors who have no intention of ever living in the city. Hard to feel pride in that.

Down in the Tube station at Midnight - the Jam

Yes definitely Waterloo Sunset and pretty much all Kinks songs remind me of London.
Also Bloc Party have a lot of references to East London (ahhh, my home town!) although not necessarily in a good way.

Jamie T and the Maccabees are very south London. Lots of references and a general feeling.

London Bridge is Falling Down

There is a stanza from the theme song to the movie If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Belgium that I have always loved:

If this is London why ain't it raining?
The sun is shining on St. Paul's dome
If this is real then I must be dreaming
Can't wait to tell the folks back home

London Calling, going underground.
Let's all go down the strand, London Pride.
