Anyone else seeing Wilko on his farewell tour?

I am seeing him on 17th, really excited as I have loved him and Doctor Feelgood since the 70's but its very sad that he is so ill.

I think the fact that his farewell tour keeps getting more and more gigs added is brilliant and long may it continue. I couldn't get tickets and can't afford to pay what the touts will ask, which is a shame. I too was a fan of Dr Feelgood, and saw them a couple of times in the 80s.

That's the one I am going to Armadale. I am really looking forward to it, and to seeing Eddie & the Hot Rods on the night too. Paul Gray has had cancer too and has just been given the all clear, but I am not sure if he is playing that night.

No, unless any more are added and they are within reach of us, but I bet the gigs will be great. I've never seen Dr Feelgood, but always liked them, one of the first albums my DCs really took to was their greatest hits.

Have you seen the film Oil City Confidential about them? It was on BBC4 last year, fascinating.

The Hot Rods had one biggish single in the late 70's Paul Gray was their bass player, who also played with The Damned.

Oh he loved it. He was very excited.

And he also had a bit of a giggle because I was worried he wouldn't be able to get there on time from work and might miss the start...he pointed out that if it opens at 7pm the headline act doesn't usually start at 7pm happily he also loves The Hot Rods who were apparently all the rage when he was in sixth form

I just watched that Eddie & The Hot Rods video and bellowed along to it, even though I've probably not heard it for about 20 years. It's one of those songs that sticks in your head.

I did read somewhere that the New York punk scene was influenced by Down By The Jetty after Chris Stein took a copy back there and played it non stop for various members of Blondie, The Ramones and The New York Dolls. Whether that's true or not I don't know, but the thought that a pub rock band influenced a genre of music that went global makes me smile.
